It looks like i am finally gonna break down and start looking at IP phone systems.

I would like to purchase a small system and set it up in my demo room, BUT i still dont know which one.

Any suggestions on a system to sell/install??

Thank you, Mitch

Look at ESI. They have nice small IP systems and don't require a commitment on sales.

Look at the Nortel BCM. Based on the Norstar, it is server based, 2 NIC cards built into the system. Will work with Norstar TDM sets and the I2000 series phone from nortel that are also will work with the larger VOIP systems(PBX based) they sell. Good luck!

Coral,

What is the small IP system that ESI sells. I have been quoting a lot of the "C" Class stuff lately.

Ah, E-class is the smallest ESI that can do VOIP acording to the website -
https://www.esi-estech.com/products/systems/VoIP/why_VoIP.php

NOT exactly a small system OR innexpensive!
Talkswitch has new unit out as well as Bizfon that's way less expensive. (note their both new nad do not have much of a track record yet, so I would expect some debug issues at this point) but you can get into a Talkswitch 4x4x8 for less than
$1700. I don't believe the E-Class comes anywhere near that!

Coral,

Quick question? What do you mean by no commitment on sale?

I thought ESI made you get certified to the tune of about $1000 AND you have to buy a not for sale demo unit for about $5K. That's a bit of a commitment [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

ESI will let you sell the "C" Class without any commitment. I do not think that it supports VOIP though. I just talked to a guy about becoming a reseller for a system called "Packet 8". It is a virtual PBX that runs over broadband. The thing that I thought was really neat is that it will connect to a TDM switch through an analog port. So if you have people working from home they can connect to your switch and make calls. Atleast this is what I got from my conversation today. Is anyone familiar with it?

The commitment is that you be certified...not the amount of sales you do. ESI is a pretty slick system if you need ease of use and damn kick butt voicemail. Depends on your market is all I will say. I know for a fact we are about to cut off the small end again as it not worth it for our company. Too cut throat for people that simply want dial tone, shop on ebay for parts, and generally are asses compared to out larger customers. IE they want to pay nothing and get a mercedes when the bought a 10 year old Yugo. To each their own, we have done well in the small market but, to be honest I don't see the motive to stay in it as it takes 90% of my time and generates 10% revenue.

You should always have a demo system for the product your sell..if not for selling at least for spare parts if need be. Once again you have to know what market you are going to compete in. We are getting out of the low end small stuff after playing for a few years. For us it's not worth it.

Jonathon, there are many companies that make such a device. It simply an ip fxo/fxs. Usually cheaper and better to simply get an OPX if it relatively close. I have IP analog extenders out there as well for the people that need it.
