I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like this ---but here's my guess.

1. Possible D-marc --larger black cable being the outside feed--small black wire being a ground. The greyish cable on bottom feeding #4. Open up box and put buttset on any terminal that looks like a telephone posts --see if you have DT.

2. Intermediate terminal box--taking a feed from box # 4 (white cable) Open up box and put buttset on any terminal that looks like telephone posts (look for red/green)

3. Intermediate terminal box --taking feeds from box #4. Open it up and see. Test for DT

4. Possible 2nd D-marc. Seems to be fed by black wire and feeds other boxes including box #5.

5. Terminal box being fed by box #4. I see nothing going out of it though.

The two boxes that have the large black flat cable going to them would be d-marcs at one time--if the black feed cables are coming from the outside and are telephone cables and not TV Cable feeds. The main thing is to open box #4 and see if you can get any DT. It looks like at one time there may have been separate services for different families. Or they just liked to put redundant boxes on the wall. Good Luck Is this in the USA? Where are you located? Fill out your profile.
Is this a test?

Looks like they all are different versions of D-marks.

5 looks like an old residential carbon protector D-mark. This looks like the oldest,
1 is the newest version, 3 & 4 are the same they look like it takes a can wrench to open but looks like a splice box being used for a d-mark, 2 just looks like a newer version of 3 & 4.

2 cents...

Looks like another one of those lazy clec companies. Rather than removing the old equipment they simply add stuff to it & patch between.

All of these are network interface devices with gas tube protection provided by the local telco or CLEC. It gives the customer a place to test for dialtone by disconnecting the inside wiring. Number 5 is pre-divestiture protecter with carbon protectors and a rubber cover.

it appears to have been removed by admin. I don't think you are supposed to post pictures. Imagine what we could end up with if that becomes a habit [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com] we'd never get any work done!

#1 looks alot like what the lecs use around here because they are too lazy to run cable.

takes some sort of dsl line in but gives you 1-5 pots lines out.

i have a dealership that has some old verizon cable running into it. but instead of them replacing it when it has problems......nooooo.....they find 1 good pair as the feed, then put that dsl signal on it and get the regular lines back out to the old demarc. this place has about 5 of those things! they suck! if that dsl line in goes out, BAM! the 1-5 lines are dead.

#5 is the old single line protector WECO #123. These follow after the 93C/1293C metal enclosed protectors with fuses. #2 looks like a Bell DSL SNI. The others do appear to be AIP protectors. #1 looks similar to a DLS/T box. This would be used for combined voice&data changed over to a standard SNI.
