I'm using a Strategy VM system.

When users use their DND button, calls don't go to their VM greeting they go to the system busy greeting. I know this can be set to a custom message, but I want to just turn this off.

I saw in the admin software a place that is supposed to turn it off, but it doesn't. Is there a way I can turn this off?

What voicemail on what system?

Sorry, I thought there was only one type of Strategy voicemail system or I would have been more specific. I'm using a Strategy DK. And I have a CTX670 with the most current software release.

There is a known issue in the software. The Stratagy should see the DND as a busy EXCEPT when system call forward is enabled. Check FB12 in Station Assignments (Prg.200). If system call forward is programmed, the VoiceMail will ignore the DND key.

You will need to change the Telephone Integration strings so that a busy condition in the voice mail is looked at the same as a No Answer condition. This is done by changing the b's to r's saving and then rebooting

Indeed sys call forward is set. Considering that, what can I do? I assume it is turned on so that calls will go to VM on busy/no answer (which is what the sys CF is set to). Is there another way to have calls go to VM on busy/no answer other than have a sys call forward?

Would a different VM solve this problem? Is there a firmware upgrade that would solve this? I'm rather grateful you know that this is a known issue [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]. Is there a known fix or a known workaround?

My current workaround is to setup a call forward to VM button on the phone they can turn on instead of using the DND - but I would like them to be able to use the DND since we have a receptionist that answers the phones.

Breed! Sorry, I missed your answer. How do I / can I do that? Do I do it on the CTX or on the VM?

Ok, I did some research. I found my manual for my voicemail. I see that the integration you're talking about is in the VM. I see in my integration several lines with various settings. The guide helped some, but it didn't give a good explanation of what the settings were. It says b - busy, r-ring no answer, x-wild card, and others.

I have 9 lines of integration code. I see 2 that have "b"s in them. I could change those b's to r's. I see that it says to do that in the manual. I'll test that.

If you don't mind my questions though, I have 2.

1) The first letter is uppercase, and is sometimes an "A" or an "N" - which I don't know what A and N are. Why uppercase, and what is A and N? The A and N fall under "forward from ring no answer".

2) How does the system match to these integration codes? Or more precicely, what do these codes do? My first code is "forward from ring no answer" and is "Brr". The second is "Brrr" and the third "Brrrr". Why the repetetiveness? How does that work?

Anyway, thanks for your time and for putting me on this path. If replaceing the lowercase b's to r's eliminates busy, that will be great. I'm still curious as to if there is a fix so that you don't need to mess with the system integration (you should be able to turn off the busy signal from system configuration utility right?

Thanks again.

PMC - With all due respect to Breed, I personally don't recommend messing with the integration strings. They are there for a reason and its easy to mess things up.

Remove Sys. CF on all phones.

Replace the DND button with a one touch key programmed as #6011XXX (XXX being the pilot no. to voicemail). You can label this one DND

Make another one touch key programmed as #6041XXX. Label this one C/F VM.

When they press the "DND", all calls go to VM.

To remove the "DND", press the C/F VM. This returns the phone to Busy/NoAns.

This process has worked well at some of our locations.

Let me know.

Dan

Thanks Voyager. I have considered that. The main reason I want the DND to work is because we have a receptionist that answers the phones and she can see if they have their DND on.

Of course there's also the fact that if my people don't have a light that tells them the phone is on DND, they won't remember [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com].

I don't like messing with the Integration for the same reason you mentioned, but the manual did say to do just what he said <sigh>. I just wish it explained how the integration worked/what those letters mean/do so I felt like I had some idea of what I was doing. I know what the lowercase letters stand for - but I don't understand how the matching works (how does it know "brrr" from "brrrr").

I greatly, very much, appreciate the advise

PMC - Voyager is correct you are into advanced programming and changing this can be tricky. His option may be simplier, if you are totally set on your configuration another option may be to record the busy greetings the same as your Greeting 1 and you would not have to change anything. To answer your question the rr, rrr, and rrrr represents 2 3 and 4 digit extensions.

Thanks Breed. We've stated using the menu capability of the VM to have VM transfer to people's cell phones.

Problem: the busy greeting doesn't use the menu you setup in your VM.

So, I'm back to needing to get around the busy greeting.

hmmm... Too bad it just doesn't work like it's supposed to (i.e. turning the busy greeting off). Or, if the busy greeting just forwarded calls to your normal VM instaed of just taking a message and putting it in your VM (i.e. letting you use the VM box menu).
