Our customer has a Strata DK28 c/w 4 CO & 8 Ext. They need to expand the CO & Ext. We have a spare DK16 with an extension cabinet & card c/w 2 CO & 4 Ext. Can we use the DK16 cabinet & expansion card for the DK28?. Do we have to program the expansion card? We could not get hold of the DK28 Manual but we have DK16 & DK280 programming manual. Can we use these to program the DK28? We need to program some extensions to ring, some not to ring & also to program a DKT-2010SD phone in the meeting room to be able to have voice conference. Can we program using another DKT-2010SD phone from Ext 200? Thank you very much & sincerely appreciate any help. Cheers.. :confused:

there is no such thing as a DK 28, is it a CTX 28?? if so the DK 16 stuff will not work

It sure looks like a DK40i, but I would not bet the farm on it. I would suggest finding a manual for it. The 40i manual details the cards that are compatible. I hope that the 28 manual does as well.
Edit: If it is the same as our 40i, the expansion cabinet from a DK16 is NOT compatible. You needed an expansion cabinet for a 16e, 40, or 40i.
It appears that the DK28 is only available in Asia, I've never heard of one. Doesn't sound like the 16 or 40 cabinet will work, and the cards might be different too.
Looking at the DK380, it is our 424i and the DK28 is our DK40i.
If you add 12 (dial tones) to 28 (24 digital, 4 analog) you get 40, ala DK40i.
Paul is correct that you must have the correct expansion for the DK28. If the base and expansion were bought at the same time, the expansion cabinet would not work. That said, if the expansion cabinet was purchased within the last few years, it could be the correct revision. The new DK40 (i) expansion cabinet is backwards compatible with the DK16. I would think the expansion cabinet would have to say DK28, not DK16.
You can use PDKU, RSTU, RDTU, RPTU, etc, in the expansion cabinet.
I've never been to Singapore, but if I came I sure wouldn't bring gum and toss it in the street, I don't need a caning that bad.

You can use the 2x4 card on the DK28, four of them if you want. An expansion cabinet is not very expensive. You can get them there or here, new or used.
Thanks Bunnie. I did check with a Toshiba installer friend locally & he said I could use the DK16 Expansion Cabinet with the DK28 Base unit. The card in the expansion cabinet is a KCDU c/w 2 CO & 4 Ext. He said I could use a DK280 Programming Manual to program. I also think that you may be right that our DK40i is your DK40i (it may also be your DK40 although both these models are not available in Singapore). I also got hold of the DK40i programming manual & it has similar codes as the DK280. I will be trying the expansion card & codes tomorrow & hope it works.
By the way if you plan to visit Singapore just contact me & I'll be glad to be your tour guide. Dont worry about the gum. Th actual thing is you can chew gum in Singapore but not to sell or distribute & if you litter you will only get a fine (if caught) & not caning (thats for heavier offences like drugs, vandalism, fighting etc). Anyway I also find it silly for our govt to ban selling gum. My kids love them & we always get them in neigbouring Malaysia.

If everything appears to work but there is no audio coming from line 5 or 6 on the KCDU pcb in the expansion cabinet, then the expansion cabinet is not compatible. Here in the U.S., the DK16 expansion cabinet will not work on the DK16e, DK40, or the DK40i base cabinet.
OK, I can help shed a light on this.
In Asia, most of the models ended up with the Digit "8" due to marketing strategy.
DK8 = DK14
DK28 = DK40
Strata CT = DK380
Anyway, for a DK28 system, you can use a DK16 Expansion cabinet but not the other way round. A DK28 cannot use some of DK16's card such as KCOU. But it can use the KCDU, and the K4RCU.
Similar to the DK16 which follows the DK280 programming, the DK28 follows the DK380 programming. And you can use any port to enter the programming mode unlike the usual Port 005. It is better to use a 20-button LCD phone such as DK2020D-SD, DKT3020C-SD or the latest DKT3220C-SD.
Bear in mind, the configuration of the DK28 is as follows:
Maximum capacity is 12 CO lines with 24 Extensions (but the first 8 is Digital since it comes from the base) and lastly, 4 SLT ports, hence the number 28.
So, you can slot in 4 KCDU or mix with the RCOU/RCOS and also the PEKU and RSTU. But if you use all four KCDU, and your customer needs a Call Billing solution, you would have to look for a TSIU and not a PIOU.

Just to update everyone, we installed the DK16, KCDU expansion card to the DK28 base yesterday & all went OK. We programmed using a DK280 or DK40i manual & all went smooth. All trunk, extensions and features working fine. Thanks to all for your assistance especially to MrEngineer & Bunnie.

The Asians never use "4" much as it closely pronouces the word for Death. Therefore, the "8" pronouces as Luck, or Prosperous.
