I'm attempting to administer our voicemail via Uadmin 2.0 but haven't had much luck connecting. Here is a list of my equipment and software I'm using to connect. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something?

- PPTC Serial to Ether adapter
- 6-wire x-over phone cable
- UAdmin 2.0
- Lava Ether Link Manager

Our installer said that all I really need is the 49.00 adapter and a 6-wire x-over phone cable from the ksu to the programming computer. Can anyone verify this?

You should use Uadmin 2.1 , then check your baud rate in Uadmin should be 57600

I was thinking the GVPH in the CIX 40 was 9600 baud like the CTX-28.

You are using a PPTC Serial to Ether adapter because you don't have a serial port on you PC, or because your PC is not in the same area as the phone system? I have never used one, or heard of anyone else using one for the Stratagy voicemails. I know people have had trouble with connecting with USB serial adaptors in the past.

You are connecting the 6 wire X-over cable to the GVPH Voicemail, not the KSU's ethernet adaptor. The voicemail sits behind the processor. Typically, from there you would plug into a PPTC-9 connector which plugs into your PC's 9 pin serial port. In your case it would be the serial-ethernet adaptor.

Run Udmin. Configure to use Com 1. Uadmin can only use com 1 or 2. Connect with your security code.

You may be right newtecky

I thought the 40 needed Xadmin.

Newtecky is right, the 40 is 9600 baud.

I'm right again.

When do I get my next star? Ha.

I use Uadmin 2.1 for all Stratagy voicemails now. Been working good so far.

Well, the DOS base ones; the IVP8, GVMU, GVPH, LVMU. Not the Sratagy ES. smile

There is only Udmin 2.0 and 2.1 on Toshiba's website now. Ver 2.1 inclused the DST update.

I also get the cryptic handshake rety and I am using Uadim21.

My setup:
serial port connection
9600 baud
server 2003 (same result on XP)
Did you try 57600?

Yes, the handshake retry message comes faster smile

I am also trying to connect to a CIX40

Does the message mean that the baud rate is wrong or could it be the password?

I think the installer meant a usb to serial adapter if you don't have any serial ports on your pc.

I finally gave up on the direct serial link approach and went with a modem. It seems like the interface for the GVPH1A is a left-over from another box.

PC UART speed was a factor. I ran at 9600, 19200, and 38400 without a problem. Did not try 57600.
