I have a customer that would like an IP phone in his home from his main office system (Vodavi XTS). Unfortunately there is no cable/DSL/local wireless Internet service available where he lives out in the country. Has anyone tried a voip application using any of the commercially available Satellite Internet services? If so, how is it working?
Thanks

We are finding that we get good voice transmission for anything less than about 150ms ping time. At about 200ms and above we start loosing packets.

We are not using satellite, but I imagine it would work if the ping times are short.

The number of hops might make a difference too.

Has Vodavi posted any “real world” specs for the IP products??

Satellites orbit at (if I remember) about 28,000 miles. If you figure the time it takes for a signal to make a round trip (56,000 miles), the delay would make for extremely bad, if any, audio.
