My church bought a building that has a Vodavi IN1400-00 & the 33 button sets. It also has a daughter board that has a Tellabs ringing generator attached to it. The only documentation is on the Infinite VM. No vendor information. It was working but has been powered-down for almost 2 years. I fired it up and the green LEDs are on and the heartbeat is pulsing, but the sets are dead. (No display, no signs of activity)

Most of the station punchings on the 66 block have no voltage. Some of the stations have 30 volts that drops to 2 volts when at set is punched down.

The manual that I downloaded says to connect the nicad battery and turn the power switch on, but I can find neither of these. I suspect that system is slightly different from the manual description. I have taken a set and connected it directly to the 66 block with the same results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remember that these 33 button sets require two pair, not just one as with today's systems. On the 25 pair cable, X100 will be the first two pair, and so on down to X107.

The daughter board is a 2 x 4 analog (SLT) station card. These stations only require one pair each and use what would be the first pair of the previous two-pair count for stations 100-107. Chances are, this card was equipped with the system to integrate with an external voice mail system.

You need to make sure that all components are either Starplus or Infinite. Infinite phones will have a part number that begins with "IN", for example, and IN1414-51 is an infinite 33 button speakerphone with display. Then, you will need to look at the software chips on the mother board, which are about dead center, 2/3 of the way down from the top. These must say "infinite" or have a part number that also begins with "IN".

If any components are mismatched, the phones won't work. Remember, what the label on the KSU's cover says and what chips are actually installed can be two different things.

There is not a Nicad battery on this system, nor is there a power switch. The memory backup is provided by a large green "super cap" (capacitor) in the lower-right hand corner of the mother board. Chances are, the manual that you have is for the DVX1 and DVXII combined. You'll need to focus on the section for the DVX1, since the DVXII and up are completely different architecture.

Thank you for replying.

I understand that each port requires two pair. (TX/RX) It looks like I am supposed to see 12 volts. Stations 100-107 have nothing on them. 108 has 30 volts which drops to 2 volts with a set loading it. I have looked at the Amphenol connector and it looks ok.

Try removing the 2 x 4 daughter board. Those are notorious for failing and bringing the whole system down. You can leave it in place, just disconnect the ribbon cable(s) for testing purposes. If it still doesn't come up properly, remove the daughter board completely and try it again. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad KSU.

X108 is going to be the first analog extension port and sounds like it's behaving properly. You can only connect a standard single-line set to these ports. If you are able to do so, and you are able to draw dial tone, then at least you will know that the processor is working. Of course, this is dependent upon the daughter board still being connected.

Well, it's fixed. It was a comedy of errors. First, a very kind person who donated time and material wired the jacks to the EIA 568B standard, so the w/o and w/g were flopped. Flopping them got the sets to come to life. However, the LEDs were constantly flashing. When I punched down a test phone at the 66 block, everything worked fine. I repunched the connections and all is well. I suspect that he didn't have an impact tool.

It just goes to show you that even a blind hog can find an acorn every now and then.

Many thanks for your kindness.
