I need to see if anyone out there has successfully converted their Vodavi DVX system to utilize VOIP. How is that working for you? Do you see the cost savings? How well does it perform as comparison to the previous connection method? I also need some pointers and Info on how I would accomplish this with my present system. I currently have a Voadavi DVX Plus II phone system with about 60 active ports. I have a full 24 channel PRI as the primary communication line. What would I need to add to or subtract from my system equipment wise to make it VOIP Ready and can I get the same call capacity as the PRI with VOIP? Not sure how that would work? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
When you say VOIP it sounds like you mean VOIP trunks rather than endpoints (telephones, etc). If you are using a full PRI moving to IP trunks could be done with little on your side. Multiple companies offer IP trunks that look like CO lines or PRIs to the telephone system. Our experience has been mixed. Some sound OK most of the time, others sound fine. You would need a fair amount of bandwith coming in though...what is your plan for that? Going from a full PRI to 23 IP trunks is a big commitment.

Honestly though, cost savings does not seem to be too significant. Are you looking for LD savings or what?If you really desire IP look into a system that supports IP trunks/endpoints rather than rigging something that was never meant to have it.

Your system may support voip for system networking and or ip phones but this function is not designed for voip handoff from a telco. You need a system that is SIP compatible. And the DVX is not.
The DVX is not SIP compatible, but there are ways around that with IP converter devices, etc....but the results are mixed from OK to bad. I would upgrade to a system that is SIP compatible for the best results.

Yes, I was primarily looking to reap some cost savings with LD. We are a Korean owned company and make many international calls. It seems that consensus is for upgrading to a SIP compatible phone system though. That was mainly the information I was looking for. I needed to know the feasibility of upgrading our present system for VOIP trunks. Thanks for the advise everyone.
If you are only making a few calls at a time to Korea then you could just get one or two SIP trunks from a provider and use those lines to call Korea. You can get a converter that makes the SIP trunks into CO lines for the DVX. But if you make a lot that would really not be practical.

You might consider using Vonage. You can connect their routers to your DVX as pots lines and make calls as normal. The rates to Korea per minute are:

North Korea 850 $0.63
South Korea 82 $0.06
South Korea (Cellular & Premium) 821, 8210-19 $0.09
South Korea - Seoul 822, 8220-26, 8228-29 $0.06
