Hello all,

Thanks for all the past support.
New problem trying to connect ot NEC Elite 48 with FMS (2) card. This is a used system and I do not know the history or passwords. The phone is working as we are using it now. But the problem is that the VM answers as a different company and not ours!!! So you can see as my boss does not like thisor me right now.....

I am using windows 98 with the cosessions 7.0.

Question #1. I assume I need to use the "REMOTE VIEWER" of this software. I have set it up an 3800 N,8,1,Xon/Xoff and Direct Connect comm1 with null modem cable to the front DB9 connector of VM card. All dip switches are in the off position. Is this correct?

Question #2 I have tried to use blank for user name and pass and also tried voice/support and just NEC in the username.

Each time I hit connect button it flashes up a dos-like terminal and around 15 seconds latter it fails with no response from host. this cannot be correct?

Question #3 Do I need to purchase anything (MODEM) for the VM card for this to work or is this only required for remote dial-in.

Thanks to all.

The more I do this, the more I respect the complexity (and frustration) in modern phone systems....

Oh well thanks
Keith
You should have the connection as direct connect to com 1 of your pc. The com settings are 19200,8,N,1,Xon/Xoff. Use the null modem cable. The name is support and pw is voice for the cosessions. If you're successfull you will see the banner screen of the voicemail.

I have it as a direct connect. The com settings are now 19200,8,N,1,Xon/Xoff. With the null modem cable, I get the error "CTS Timeout".

I also am wondering about the DIP switches, since there is reference to local and remote on DIP switch 3. Any more hints?

Can you confirm that we should be using the VIEWER or the HOST? There are two programs "COSESSION REMOTE HOST" and "COCESSION REMOTE VIEWER".

One last note, this is an FMS[2] voice mail card. In the manuals it does reference the VMS and FMS command sets. Do we still use co-sessions with FMS?

Thanks you....

Use the viewer. Btw, are you using a laptop? If so, is your serial port built in or are you using a USB to serial converter?
switches should be set to all up (not sure if that's all on or off)

older vms/fms default is nec no password

only on the newer fms/vms/cms/vmp do you use the support/voice

you will see the banner screen if you can connect.

if nec doesn't work try log in in as all the mailboxes (9+ext) and use their passwords to see if someone else has manager status.

Thanks,

The 19200 fixed it.

Now I have the VM messages working.

How do I program the system to answer all incomming CO lines (only 2 of them) straight to the opening greeting of VM?

Thanks
That would be in the phone system programming and not the voicemail system.
in program 3-42 (day mode) or 3-43 (night mode) in the phone system programming is where you tell it.

that will make it ring the vm on the 1st ring.

Kabeck, could I have a copy of cosessions from you? I have a Nec pro level II and plan to add a VRS-F(4)-11 KTU module but havo no sofware for it.

Thanks in advance

-----------------------------------
1st-the vrs is NOT a voicemail.

2nd-cosessions won't help you here as a vrs programming is done thru the phone system

3rd-you'll have to assign a access code in the system (program 1-1-46/7/8, option code 501)

4th-all this will be able to give you is a basic auto attendant not any type of "voicemail" capabilities

5th-you'll need a ad-8 (voicemail card) and an open slot in your cabinet. THEN you'll have voicemail & can use cosessions to program it!!

most ad-8's i've come across here lately (unless they've been recently refurbed), the drives are wearing out. some will whine, others are starting to get bad sectors etc....just a fyi. and if you do buy one chances are that you'll spend quite alot for it when you might be able to get a new ipk system with a small voicemail for not much more and have newer features (live record, softkeys, etc) not to mention a warrenty!!

Thanks, chris. I have now a clear scheme of what i'm need to setup the voicemail =)

I'm looking now the necessary modules, the first try is to find the modules. If not, maybe an equipmment upgrade is need, like you say.

Regards.
it would be more than an upgrade........it will replace the current cabinet.

here's one on ebay:

refurbed/90 day warrenty

Ok. My actual setup is.

CPU F(50)-20
empty slot
ESI-F(8)-21
ESI-F(8)-21
SLI-F(8G)-21
COI-F(8)-30
COI-F(8)-30
ESI-F(8)-21
empty slot
empty slot

13 C.O Lines
22 stations

I have located another VMS-F(4)-20 with 1-year warranty. If no other modules are required, I think i can accomodate the VMS-F(4)-20 and the VRS-F(4)-11 in the system with no probelm.

I forgot the MIF-F(5)-10 card. Is in the First slot.
still at a loss why you would want the vrs.

the vms (ad-8) will do auto attendant as well as all of the other voicemail stuff

You right. the VMS is enough.
