hello guys my customer called and said his system was down. sure was. no lights on any phones and no power at the 66 block. system has power and the lights flash on all cards. the amp plugs are in place. i reset the system and reseated the cards so im thinking the processor is bad. but im not an nec man. any thoughts on this on. dont want to spend more than required but dont want to get a processor and have to tell my customer it was the cabinet of something else after i put in a replacement processor. thanks for the help. dave

Before you repace the CPU have you defaulted the system and is the CPU LRD flashing normal fast rate????

Turn off the power , Pull out the small battery that is plugged into the CPU, Wait about 30 seconds and then power on the system.

If it comes back on again then the database was corrupt if not maybe the CPU or one of the othyer cards is pulling down the system..

no i didnt try that but its a good idea. i will give it a shot tomorrow. thanks dave

Before I would default the system pull all cards except the CPU and the 1st ESI, if the phones come back up slot the remaining cards 1 by 1 until the bad card corrupts the system. If no phones come up with the CPU and ESI card switch the ESI with another if you have one. I don't think its a CPU problem

Since you said you are not an NEC man, pulling the CPU battery should be your LAST resort. Follow dans steps first. If you are compelled to pull the CPU batter, keep in mind, this will default all system programming and you will have to reprogram.

I have a customer where this problem occurs whenever they unplug a phone an plug it back in.... the station does not come back. They go around unplugging other phones to swap around thinking it's a phone problem.... whereby each phone then goes dead. I have no idea what is causing this, but a reset of the CPU via the reset button usually restores the system.

too late i already went out there today. defaulting the system did bring the phones back up. odd sense the battery is dead. but that being the case i have had a little pratice redoing the programs. everything seems to be ok. i need to remember in the future if i suspect a card i can run it on the processor and esi card and locate a bad card if one does go out. thanks for all the info and have a great weekend! dave

As the battery was dead or nearly the system may have had a power cut and lost some of the database may have been partcially lost or corrupted..

Glad to see it was sorted. I did think about the pulling of the cards but down here I can only remember one case in 9 years of a card pulling a system down. The rest have been corrupted databases caused by a power spike or a power cut..
