At one of our customer's locations (we have a DSX 160 with two power supplies. Recently, the voice mail (an intramail)stopped working. I went to the site, removed the intramail CF card, powered down the system, replaced the CF card, then powered it up, and it was back up and running. A couple of weeks later, the system just reset for no reason that we could tell. The UPS log showed no power loss and none of the other devices connected to it had a problem). I wonder if one of the power supplies is failing.

Any ideas would be welcome.

When the sytem reset did it come back up with customer data base or did it default?
What is the configuration of the system?
T1,PRI?

They have a PRI. The system reset (the database did not default, just as if someone hit the reset button, or turned it off, then on.

When you pulled the cf card out did you try checking it in a card reader to see if you could get into it? I am guessing with a PRI on the DSX series you have up to date software? Not sure how much you worked on the DS2000 series but I can remember on 3.03?? there was a version that would reset every so often.

Could something have fallen against the power button or pulled the cord out?

.......or a bad backplane....I had a 160 reprogramming it's self....NEC tech support said couldn't happen...until they came in, set it, and watched it reset it's self with corrupt software load. Changed the VM ( the report was VM not working )...still did it within 24 hrs. Over a period of a week both power supplies were changed, all station and trunk cards, and a new CPU....still did the reprogamming thing....changed the KSU so I had a new backplane....Every card was put back in one at a time to test, to include the VM, all the original cards....been working since July....only real change was the backplane.....and even though NEC Tech Support says it can't happen...it did.

I have no problems with the 80s, just the 160s. Did you re-figure the power supply load and the correct position for the power supplies? Or add a third to just see if it offsets the possible power drops ( DC brownouts?)?

Let us know how it comes out.
