I am not an NEC technician but rather a Network Admin that inherited and NEC Aspire phone system. The installer is long gone and provides no support at this time. I am able to get into programming as we do know the IP address and password for system.

I have one extension that can receive calls from other extensions, but cannot receive calls from outside. The extension for example is 303. If I dial 303 from another office phone, the extension will ring fine and user can answer. If I dial this number from my cell phone, all I hear is rna, while users phone never rings at all.

I have a little history with phone systems so I did do a little digging around the system. I moved extension to different port and problem followed the extension and not the port. I put different extension on user's desk and it worked fine. The problem seems to be programmed into the one extension. All others are fine. The extension is in same cos as other extensions. This is an analog line used for fax machine in case that matters. User can dial out all day long with no problems, but cannot receive calls from outside.

I'm hoping there is a setting hidden somewhere that blocks outside calls that I can just turn off for this extension. I have not been able to find any local company that provides support for the NEC Aspire system. Everyone I call knows nothing about this system.

Thanks in advance for any help.
How are you dialing the extension from the outside? Directly through a DID number? Off an auto attendant? Could be the phone is in DND for external calls only. If this is the case, lift the handset, listen for intercom dial tone, dial 8470. You should hear a confirmation tone. Hang up and test. Hope it works. If not, we'll move on to plan B.
I am dialing direct through DID number from cell phone. I can also dial from another phone by dialing 9 first then the number and get same thing, but when dialed via just extension it works. I have been reading and reading this morning and found the DND might be the issue. Since it was a fax line I didn't think that would be it since it used to work and then stopped working.

I'll go try the 8470 and report back...thanks.
I picked up handset, got dial tone and hit 8470...heard a few short beeps then hung up phone. Tested from cell again and still got ring no answer. Called from another office phone using extension and it rang just fine. I think it's time for Plan B.
If you have access, check the DID programming for that extension. Make sure the TARGET extension is in fact that extension number. Also, make sure there is no call forwarding on that extension by dialing *20. This will cancel any forwarding.

I'm running out of plans here. Hope it works
You had the word TARGET in all caps...got me looking in that direction. I managed to find the Dial-in Conversion Table Data Setup page and found my extension in question. it did in fact have a Target Number that was different than my extension. I changed the Target number to match extension and that fixed my problem.

Thank you sooooo much for the solution to this. I have spent too many hours trying to figure this one out and I know without this forum and your help I would have never found that setting.
Glad I could help. I had no plan C.
