I wish there was a cross reference chart to compare manufacturer's terms.

In the SL1100, what does NEC call the "prime line" feature? I just want to specify which line a single line set (the fax machine)should use for outgoing calls.

I have the trunk in a trunk group with program 14-05.

Thanks!

15-01-02 automatic trunk line seizure

14-06 assigns the trunk group order to the extension

Thanks ttech. I understand that auto trunk seizure would need to be on. But 14-06 doesn't appear to be for extensions. Do I need to do something with mapping?

I'm just not seeing it yet.

You could try Trunk Group Routing.

Trunk Group Routing sets outbound call routing options for users that dial the Trunk Group Routing code (9) for trunk calls. Trunk Group Routing routes calls in the order specified by system programming. If a user dials 9 and all trunks in the first group are busy, the system may route the call to another group.

1- PRG 14.05. Place trunks in their appropriate trunk groups. By default all trunks are in TG1. i.e. Tks 1,2,3. in TG1, Tk 4 in TG2,
2- PRG14.06. Routing Table trunk group selection order. In each route table place the trunk groups to access in their priority order. I.e Route Table 1 has P1 = TG1 and P2 = TG2. Route Table 2 has P1 = TG2 and P2 = TG1.
3- PRG21.02. Assign the routes set in 14.06 to extensions. I.e ext 200 points to route table 1 in Mode 1 and ext 201 points to route table 2 in mode 1.
This feature can also be used to allow access to certain trunks by certain stations.

I have:

15-01-02 auto line seizure checked.
14-05 has Line 3 in TrkGrp 2.
14-06 has TrkGrp 2 in trunk routing table 2.
21-02 has the fax extension set to use route table 2.

Does the fax machine have to dial 9 first? Can this be done without dialing 9 first?

And I haven't even thought about getting this thing to answer a fax call! (DIL, right?)

Thanks.

14-07 trtunk access map

14-07, then 15-06 assign to extension. Use this instead of 14-06 and 21-02 (trunk routing)?

Thats what I do.

That seems a lot simpler. I've remoted in and made the changes. Waiting for the customer to test. I'll let you know how it goes.

14-07 and 15-06 did not work for me.
Went back to 14-06 and 21-02 and it works. Seems like a lot of work, but can't argue with success.

I've spent so many years doing only small Nortel systems that I'm having a hard time with the new stuff. Trunk groups and access maps in NEC must be the same as line pools and prime line in Nortel?

Kinda, save the NEC is much more flexible. The biggest problem coming from a Nortel shop is relearning telecom terminology from the rest of the world. Don't worry after a few you will have it down. Besides, how many people run a fax machine through their system on analog lines? I think I have like one out of 5000. Once you learn it you know it.

Thanks for the encouragement! And for all the help and pointers.

I have a system going in soon. The SL1100 with expansion cabinet is setup at home for programming/testing/learning for now. I might have more questions later, but will try to work them out. Maybe I'll remember it if I struggle a little first. Although, old dogs . . .

Thanks.
