One of my customers that I service all the time has someone in another office with a bad phone.
I have never seen one of these phones and know nothing about them.

I hope someone can help me out here.

They have a DSX Multibuttoned Telephone 1093057, A50-003177-002 by NEC.

From what I can find this goes on a NEC DSX40/80/160 Key Systems Only.

She says that the other party cannot hear her very well. She has to YELL to be heard.
She also says that the handset and the handset cord do not disconnect from the phone or handset.

Is this true - that the phone handset is hard-wired to the phone??

If that is not true - where or how does it disconnect? (I have not been to their office yet)
Does this problem sound like just a bad handset? or maybe the HS Cord?

Where can I get a handset for this? AND is the cord something special or just any old curly cord will work?

IF the whole phone has to be replaced - will the programming stay with the NEW phone?

Any help will be appreciated.
As my Norstar customer told this NEC person that I can fix anything for them.

Thanks.

I can almost guarantee the handset is corded. Page 2

Probably a bad handset. The handset cord is your typical curly with a long straight on one end and shorter on the other.
If the End User cannot figure out how to unplug the handset cord then you might want to check if they have Headset enabled see page 106 of this manual.

Dean:

Thank you very much for the info and those manuals.
They were very helpful.

I could NOT imagine that the handset cord can't be unplugged.

Sounds like I need a site visit.
I don't think they will be able to do anything I tell her to try..

At first she said she was the only person in her office.
So I figured she must have a 2, 3, or 4 line phone.
Replace it with any phone.
Then she said the other ones in the building have the same phones.

Translation: SHE is the ONLY person in HER own office of 4 walls with ONE desk. Of course she is.
And so is everyone else in her business office.

Sounds like a fun job.............NOT.

Again - Thanks for the help and info.

The handset has a plastic over the plug. You have to pop it out to get to the plug, bottom of phone just a std plug.

Thanks for that info.
I was able to locate a phone and when I saw the picture of one, that is what I was thinking it was.
You confirmed what I thought.

Got a phone ordered - will replace it once it arrives.
Customer said they just want a new phone.
So that eliminates troubleshooting...............unless the port is bad (doubt that).

THANK YOU everyone for your info and input.

The dsx still is a great system. www.necdsx.com has everything you need including the software. I liked it better than Norstar

I loved the software interface, so easy even a moron could do it.
