Anyone have success getting faxes to send across a Netlink environment?

I have 3 Sv9100 systems Netlinked via fiber. However I'm not able to send a fax with any consistency. I can however receive them without a bit of issue which just makes me scratch my head.

PRI Trunks in Primary system.

Open to suggestions.

Fiber from an internet provider or fiber as in you own it or lease it..direct connect?

Analog ports need flagged for FAX and T.38 should be activated. Hoping you have this properly VLAN or Diffserve as well. You might also want to scale the baud rates back to 14400 or 9600. This could be a PRI issue as well if this is some sort or IAD where you should be sending the correct DID out number so they apply correct priority and bandwidth.

Just a few things...

Direct connect fiber between buildings.

SV9100's are on their own VLAN as well.

I believe have the analog ports enabled as fax ports. 15-03 and 84-33

I would test faxing between the sites and see if that follows. If faxing between sites is ok this points to your PRI OR the other persons fax.

Are there any fax machines connected to the primary system? If so, are they working ok? If they are, Netlink/network/setting issue, if not, PRI issue.

Have you changed what codec your are using in your network ? if so 9100 needs to match.

Also go into each of the fax machines and turn -Error correct send mode- off

Fax across Netlink to Primary site, no problem.
Incoming fax received across Netlink, no problem.
Codecs across the board are all set to g.711.
Faxing from Primary system, no problem.

I've spoke with NEC tech support but they were really no help. In theory it should work.

I looked in the programming of the fax machine but can't find a way to lower the baud rate, but it should auto sense and lower by itself. May have to get the copy guy to change it and test.

I'll try disabling the error correct on send.

I'm open to all opinions.

Thanks!

I ran into a situation once where the copier/printer/fax tech happened to be onsite the same time I was for an intermentant fax problem. He logged into the machine and turned off error correction and changed the speed. It made a noticeable difference in sending and receiving, and seemed to help the overall problem. Those settings are behind their "technician only" access.

If you have the means to pull a trace you might want to check to see if the sender is using the UPDATE with SDP method as a keep alive. I ran into this recently. It was causing faxes to our fax server to dump after 3 min (which was the session timer). Fixed it by tweaking the SBC to retranslate the UPDATE message as a re-invite. I've fought FOIP issues for about the last ten years. Seems like you'll get a good signalling scheme in place then some DSU (Dipshit user) who insists that it has to be your problem because their proctologists office that is trying to send the test results says so. The fact that you can send and receive to 99.999 percent of the would means nothing to this "expert". Voice band data devices need to go extinct.
END OF RANT.
