Jules,

Rome wasn't biuld in a day. And I don't think this is going to happen overnite.

If you have never did it before you may want to think about farming this out to a pro.

Do you have a domain name yet? If so, where is it hosted? Most hosting companies have portals that allow you to set up email addresses off of your domain.

there are several places on the Internet that do web hosting I don't know any to recommend but would suggest you do a search on it

There are many dynamic dns services online that have space to put an MX record in. Best yet they are FREE!

I have used dyndns.org, no-ip.org as well as several others. If you have a SOHO (cheap) router there is probably a place to setup you Dynamic DNS account. If not you can use a applet that runs as a service.

Greg

PS I do not recommend this for enterprise applications.

I have had really good experiences with www.hostmysite.com I run my personal, business, and fire department web sites with them. I think the entry level hosting plans are around $10/month and include 50 email accounts. I have the developer plans and it runs me $230/year with 500 email accounts, 2Gb of space, free domain name, and a bunch of other features.

There is no way to get a website done overnight, at a minimum the dns records have to get pushed around the world which can take up to 4 days to happen, most are done in about a day.

You could use a dynamic dns service but then you have to host the email server yourself, which can get pretty involved. Your domain would also by something along the lines of datacompany.dyndns.org.

When I set up the accounts with hostmysite I could access them in about an hour, just had to wait for the dns records to get updated.

Well I know it willtake some time to get done but if I do not get started now then It will take longer to get done.

I just got our website uploaded last night (around 9:30) still waiting for it to come up...'dns propagation'

I have seen the dns record updated on one provider, but another didn't come up for another two days, I think their standard line is it can take up to 7 business days.

www.1and1.com

I second 1and1 I have a dedicated server with them that I've had for about a year and *knocks on wood* no problems... Heard their hosted services are just as good. And very reasonably priced!

When picking a name, try here

Also, there are several ISP who host domain/website/e-mail. An example that our customers sometimes use is LDMI.

Be a bit careful, some may host your site, have a search option, but require you to pay extra to be included in search results. (One of our customers uses one and is real unhappy about that).

Just adding another suggestion.

To get listed in the search engines you only need to have a link to your site from another site that Google visits on a regular basis. Like Find an Installer which is only a one time charge. wink

Zoneedit.com allows you free DNS for up to 5 zones. There is a charge if you want to use more than the two standard DNS servers (for higher uptime).

Godaddy.com provides domain names fairly inexpensively. They do offer web hosting, though I haven't used that service. Plus they have nice commercials :-)

I've recently set up two sites. One, geeia, is at 1and1, $3 a month including the name. It has 500 e-mail accounts available. But only 1 FTP account.

savageriders was set up at jaguarpc, $8/month, name is $8/yr at godaddy. There I have unlimited subdomains/ftp/email and each person has his own subdomain. That way they can get e-mail for [email protected]. Each person also has their own FTP account to their subdomain so they can post/host their own bike pictures.

Register your name with a tier 1 registrar. End of question

You could definitely do this by night fall, it’s not that hard. Try godaddy.com, as the above poster mentioned.

www.icdsoft.com

All in one solution. You can register a domain and get web hosting for as little as $4 a month. $5 to register a name. Had em for years. They have more space, unlimited pop3 email, ftp, etc... than any other hosting company in that price range or even close. And their tech support is very good as well.

https://www.icdsoft.com/hosting.php

You're right, not even close. I have been with Jaguar for a few years. I was on the MegaPlan, with 1 gig of disk space. As I was running out I asked for and was switched to the MegaX5 plan, 5 gigs of space, no charge. When I near the limits I'll simply upgrade to the current plan, no cost. Their tech support is via messages, quick reply and fixes.

However, if you just want a little place for yourself, nothing fancy, 1and1 offers

Web Space 10 GB
Monthly Transfer Volume 300 GB
FTP Accounts 1
MySQL Database (100 MB) 10
Subdomains 25
E-mail Account 600
$2.99 per month (includes 1 domain registration)

Jaguar will register your domain, I prefer to have the registar separate. Years ago, daughter and her friend started NookieCookies.com. The had a falling out, friend changed passwords to lock daughter out of the account. She hacked the new password (new boyfriend's name) and took control of the site. We transfered the domain name to my account. Girlfriend called support, her credit card had been used to pay for the site, got it back. We ended up with friend seeing reason and selling her half to Daughter. But if not, we owned the name, and were quite willing to allow friend to keep the site, while we start a new site and point the name to it.
