I'd like to know if anyone else is having this problem using FireFox & if you know how to correct it.

When posting on this site, if I use the "'" punctuation mark when typing words like I'd, we're, they're, etc., I get a "QuickFind" bar at the bottom of the screen as if the "'" mark is a shortcut.

The kicker is, it doesn't always do it, but when it does I can't stop it and have to switch to IE to post.

With this post, it's not doing it, but all too often it does and is a definate PITA.

I don't have a problem with the " mark but do find at times when typing it will enter the find feature I have to restart FF to get rid of it.

I'm using the same version. I just checked the plugins & I don't see anything there that would be doing this.

This problem only started about a month ago & is still happening.

I've never had that problem. I just upgraded to
2.0.0.6 last Saturday so if it's something in that version I probably haven't been using it long enough to detect the problem.

Sorry.

If you look on this page you will find that the ' key as well as the / key are hot keys for "Find Link as You Type". I can find no result on google to turn off the hotkeys for the quickfind, but hitting esc quickly removes it. There are instructions on making it appear for less time, but I don't know if this would serve your purpose. Happy googling and good luck.

Not sure if this will help, but you can access FF's advanced options by typing "about:config" (without the quotation marks)into the address field of FF. I havent looked at all of the options but their may be one to turn off the hot keys.

Thanks, I'll give it another chance. I have been using IE ever since, because it was a first class PITA.

Same here - 2.0.0.11 on OS 10.4.11

Have never had an issue.

I did have an issue on Safari, with the edit post link... but nothing since I switched to Mozilla Fire Fox.

Darn kids and their computers! smile

''''""""""'''''""""''''"""

Works fine for me, must be BIX related.
Posted By: MooreTel Re: Trouble Using FireFox Here - 02/23/08 01:46 PM
Nice try with the BIX, but not even close.

It seems to be ok now, except for the "Shout Box" in the Mod's forum. There it keeps changing me to "Guest".

I just keep both IE & FF open, using FF to browse and IE to post. PITA, but it works the way I want.

If you use bix IE will throw you to the FF dogs.
If you use bix with FF they will throw you to the Vista.
So your screwed either way.
I wish I had better news but.............

Ever consider just trying opera? https://www.opera.com has a nice and fast web browser that is pretty good.

Fiefox 3 upgrades on the way

Also has Opera 9.5.9807 Beta built in.

Upgrades should solve everything... right?
