Hey all,

What phones work on this cabinet - J1632 Rev: C

I'm not a Comdial guy...I guess this goes by DSU as well ...

Is the rev C enough info?

Thanks.
I forget the differentiator between the DSU and DSUII. What color is the cabinet? If it's black, it's a DSU; if it's gray, ("platinum"), it's a DSUII.

If it's a DSU (black), it depends on whether the software cartridge is Impact or Impression. I don't recall, but the DSUII may have had similar differences, except no cartridge.

Impact software would work with Impact phones and I think also Impression phones, however there was a specific software revision level required for Impact SCS phones. Impression software only worked with Impression phones.

Thanks Justin..

If I open it up there should be the specific software labeled on the eproms...correct?

No, it's a cartridge in a slot in the upper right hand area of the cabinet. Sort of like software cartridge on a 616 Nortel cabinet.

Hey JW...
Mine isn't that style (haven't seen those..but doesn't have cartridge).
The cabinet/ksu is the same shape/dimensions as the Executech's.

Here are pics of the ksu & spec stickers on emproms..

The only way to determine if it is an Impact or Impression KSU is to login with a laptop and look at available phone types...If it's an Impression then Impact sets won't be listed. If it's an Impact both sets types will be listed.

Can you email me the pinout to make a custom interface cable -(db9 to rj)
Will hyperterminal / procomm work? 9600, 8, N, 1 ?
(Default password)

I found this on front of manual:
“This publication is applicable to the following common
equipment: J0408, J0816, and J1632 with software
revision 2A and later.
Supports Impact, Impression, DigiTech, and
Scout Telephones”
....so being that I have REV 2C I should be good to go with Impact or Impression...but I'd like that programming info to make sure.

Thanks...
Bottom of page 2-35 I believe in the manual has the pin out. Both Hyperterm and Procomm will work.

Sorry about the misinformation. I guess I've just not seen a 1632. And the cartridges that I have seen were on the left...not the right. I'm looking at my DSU manual--page 2-49 now. I guess I've got to immediately pull out the manual on these older systems...I can't remember correctly anymore.

Looks like a DSUII 1632 and J1632 is the model number for that unit. So you can use 8012, 8024, 8312, 8324, and I'm pretty sure you can use the old Digitech phones as well. If you decide to use 8300 series phones, make sure they aren't Rev. H phones. We had a heck of a time with erratic errors when we installed 20 of those phones on a DSUII

Thanks for all the info guys..

I wasn't able to get in with PC but I think I'm safe to get some Impact 80xx series.. being what Stoph said and what I saw about rev 2c.

I guess I have a soft spot for stray animals and stray phone systems! laugh

why couldn't you get in with the pc?
they may be old but they work i hardly ever see any go bad unless they get hit by lightning even then it's usually just a line port or something going bad. very dependable.
