I recently took over IT responsibilities for a company that has a failing fxii system (to many problems to list). It just lost it's Keyvoice system to a failed hard drive. Tried everything to recover the drive/data...no luck.

I'm working on trying to get a functional Auto Attendant/ VM system set up.

My biggest question right now is this:
what does the comdial system need to see (on the analog lines that connected to the keyvoices fxo ports), to be able to transfer to a different extension.

You'll need the proper operating system- Windows or DOS and the appropriate level of Key Voice software suite with the board manufacturer drivers. I have all available if you need them..we can even provide turnkey drives to get you up and going.

We really don't have the money to get Key Voice going again, so I was going to try to roll my own. With the other problems I eluded to, (dead com1 = no configuration possible)it doesn't make sense to invest any money in it... even if we had it.

I have been playing around with asterisk lately, so i have a modern 4 port fxo at my disposal. i was thinking of trying to use it to set something up, but i have no idea what the comdial system needs to see on those 4 analog lines.

I guess ultimately the answer I am looking for is: When an incoming call has been answered by the Key Voice auto attendant on one of it's fxo ports, how does it signal the pbx to forward the call to the chosen extension?

Typically the extension numbers are added to a hunt group and the hunt group is assigned as the overflow destination for the call group of which the incoming lines are members. Comdial also calls call groups tenant groups.

RBF gave you the best solution possible. Let us know how your spend a dollar to save a dime project works out!

GWNtech,

You are trying to save penny's and it will cost you many dollars. You need a new hard drive with the right software.

We are not talking thousands of dollars here. Sell the asterisk with the modern 4 port fxo card on ebay and buy the correct hard drive for the system.

Good luck

I can attest that Asterisk is anything but free and managing it is a huge PITA unelss you really, really love Linux and you want to devote your life to tweaking the endless issues that arise. Sometimes free is very expensive.

So much better to follow RBF's suggestion. That voice mail is fantastic.

We really don't have the money to fix this. How many times do you hear this and they end up spending so much more after nothing they try works!Call an authorized dealer and skip the headaches!
