I am working on a Comdial DSU II that has ESI Voiceworks 16 voicemail connected to it. The DSU died and I had to reprogram a replacement cabinet for them. I now have an issue of the voiceworks sending ghost messages to the no response location on ID1. Whatever extension or box I change it to, the messages are there. They are always silence and about 5 seconds long. They get anywhere from 65-80 everyday. I know both systems so I have made changes on both sides, but nothing that gets rid of the ghost messages. Any ideas would be appreciated! I also cannot change the no response location to ID9999 they have people hold on the line and it rings the office phones for that destination.

My guess is that you have one of two issues here. Either the CO lines are not sending disconnect supervision or the general delivery mailbox is set up to notify itself (extension number) rather than a pager/cell phone.

In this scenario, every time a message is left, the VW thinks that it is notifying an external number, yet it is dialing the general delivery mailbox's own extension, resulting in an endless loop of notification attempts.

Is the connection via digital or analog station ports between the systems?

Even if the CO is sending disconnect supervision, is the DSU sending it to the VW? With Voiceworks using analog integration, I've always set up a custom string to force disconnect (*#*#*#). Of course, if the DSU isn't sending this, then you will get stuck with no answer routing issues that I mentioned earlier.
Since I'm guessing the voicemail didn't change at all, I'm guessing it has to do with how you're ringing the voicemail ports. Was there a backup of the database of the DSU? I often times would save print outs. Even if you don't have one of this site, you could compare with one from another site that had a DSU and VW16.

Actually, Ed may also be correct in that you may not have disconnect supervision enabled on the CO ports.

I did save a print out and that is what I went off of. I have disconnect supervision turned on on the phone system. I have analog integration and it is a 4 port. I have all four ports programmed for direct ring lines. I have ringing line preference on the ports turned on. I have them hunting to each other and call fwd busy rna set as well.

I feel like something is defective...
You said you also made changes on the VW16. What did you change there? If all you were doing was replacing the DSU, why would anything need to be changed on the VW16?

An analog integration is unusual. Usually it's a VW16 with digital (every other port) DSU integration. What kind of analog hardware is it, a module or adapters? Was everything replaced, or did some hardware move over to the replacement system?

They won't accept having the caller dial 0, instead of ” stay on the line”?

Its using the Ati-d to make the connection, so that makes it digital I guess sorry. Only the Dsu was replaced, I changed only the destination on the no response on id1 at this point to test where the messages were coming from.

For whatever reason, they won't let me change it to press zero instead of stay on the line.
Is the version of software comparable on the DSU II to the original DSU II?

Make sure you're using Disconnect Supervision on the CO ports, NOT Disconnect Notification on the station ports. Make sure Disconnect Notification is disabled on the stations.

I will check those things. Thanks.
I am not sure about the software on the switch, I do have disconnect on the lines, not sure about stations
