Am I suppose to use CAT-3 cable if I wanted to wire up my building telephone wire to the phone jack?

Thanks.
ok.. i'll bite.......

cat 3 will work. cat 5 will work. hell even 10/2 with a ground romex might work. it all depends on what you're hooking up.

how many pairs does the phone take? 1? 2? 3? 4?

what kind of phone is it?

is it for your house?
Hi.

Its actually for a series of fax machines which require an Analog extension.

So I will be using the " SLI card" on the Samsung iDCS system. This is for a company but there are also people who use a small business phone system for their house.

Would this change the type of cable I would use?

May I ask which is the standard cable used by most people when doing the wirings for a phone system? Would it be CAT-3?

It basically has 8 wires on it. So I guess each cat-3 cable can service 2 phone jacks?

Would a fax machine requires 4 pairs or 2 paris? What would be the difference if I use Cat-3 or Cat-4,5,6,etc...

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. Your help is greatly appreciated.
any of the cats you mentioned would work
the cat3 should be fine
again as asked above the phone system
will determine the number of wires some
phones are 1 pair /some 2 pair /some 4 pair if older

a fax would take 1 pair so you should
get 4 faxes out of the 4 pair
why are the faxes going through the
system arent they separate phone numbers
and going direct to fax machines

maybe you should explain your circumstances
if you want responses as your asking questions no phone guy ever would
and its starting to sound like candid camera
WOW I don't know what to say ?! and thats not normal for me

You are asking me why the faxes are going through the system because there are separate phone number directed to each fax machine?

1. Well, I have a T1 which has 24 trunks available. I would like to use those trunks to service the fax machine. If I were to purchase those trunks separately, it would cost probably $40 a line.

2. You can have a separate number for each fax machine with a T1. Its called Direct inward dialing I think. Its when the phone company send the last 4 numbers on the number dialed. The phone system can redirect based on those last 4 numbers to an extension(in this case, the particular fax machine) This is accomplished in MMC 714 on my system.

I don't understand why this is something unusual?
OK
then the wire notes above apply
OK, I was just double checking.

My assistant use to run the wires but he got deported.
Hello.

If most phone and fax machine phone jacks only need 1 pair of wires. Why do all the phone jacks have 2 pair of wires?

What is the point on the extra pair of wires?

Do the Samsung keyset phone need 2 pairs but the analog lines for Fax machines and modems only need 1 pair?

Is this something you would use only is you are using DSL connection with simutaneous use of a phone?

Thanks.

The Samsung digital sets only require 1 pair just like an analog connection. As for jacks having more than 1 pair, there are still some devices that use more than 1 pair.

Which devices use more than 1 pair?

I am trying to figure out how many lines to run to a certain location.

I think DSL internet connection uses 2 pairs but I can't think of anything else.

Maybe if you wanted to use an SLI or DLI daughter board(i forgot the actual name)

Please let me know what other devices or situation that you would need more than 1 pair.

Thanks.

I'm talking about 2 line phones, other systems (Executone for example) not Samsung.
HIRE A TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont get it you understand a t1 some what but not basic wiring??
I use to do only the programing, but I hired a guy who turned out being here illegally to do the wiring. He recently got deported so I'm on my own.
