Hello

Let me tell you what I’m trying to accomplish and you can let me know if such a thing is possible. I’m trying to have the SVMI-8E page people so the receptionist won’t have to.

If the receptionist parks a call on Orbit 5, I would like to make a button on her phone that she can press that will trigger a Page announcement on the SVMI-8E telling the office that there is a park call on orbit #5.

Does anyone have any idea how to setup such a high level task?

Maybe modifying the “CALLER OPTION PROCESSOR” located in the Extension Block on 3 out of 5 page where it said, “ Page user”?

I’m thinking maybe there might be a way to edit t his target however I can’t figure out how to even access it.

Does anyone have any ideas? I realize this is pushing the system to limits it was not originally design to go but it would be very interesting it if worked.

Thanks.
Maybe modifying the “CALLER OPTION PROCESSOR” located in the Extension Block on 3 out of 5 page where it said, “ Page user”?

That would refer to sending a digit string to a pager a person carries on them, not an overhead speaker.

I like to find people who still believe in the tooth fairy, I have lots of quarters left.

All that said, there is a gizmo called Virtual Voice that has 9 programmable buttons. It was designed for receptionists who repeat all day: "Thank you for calling the XYZ company, how may I direct your call?"

The receptionist could press "Page" and push one of the nine buttons, and "Call on park orbit one."

Pushing the system to its limits? More like having an elephant step on a rat and expecting the rat to keep typing "Gone with the wind" and not have an error in 50 pages.

Yeah, I guess if you the way the technology industry is advancing so far you kind of expect the PBX systems to reach perfection where it anticipates every possible need of its customers. To be honest, most of the features around now are pretty much the same as the features on systems 20 years ago. Page, orbits, conference, barge, transfer, etc.. It would be nice to see new advances to make things easier.

Let me tell you how the process works now.

Step #1 Receptionist will route the call to a department group(MMC 601)

Step#2, No one answers because everyone in the department is walking around goofing off.

Step #3. Unanswered call will go back to receptionist after like 6 rings.

Step#4 Receptionist apologizes to the caller and places them in an orbit.

Step #5 Receptionist will have to than constantly page that department to pick up the call.

I am sure the process is the same in almost all offices, it’s a shame the Voicemail/Auto attendant can’t attempt to automate that process.

Problem #1 The SVMI-8E can’t automatically understand which orbit a call was placed on when a call has been parked to a free orbit. It can announce which trunk or extension(10$T, 12$E) but there is not one for an extension.

Problem #2: There is no option to really customize the paging feature at all in order to program a series of buttons for various overhead page announcements? That’s a shame.

I know they don’t document this in any manual but I was kind of hoping there might be a creative way to kind of make it work but I guess its too far outside the realm of possibilities of the system.

Thanks.
Here is the link for the Virtual Voice gizmo:

It could be very handy for problem #2 and there is the less expensive software version called Virtual Voice Plus.

Thanks, that look like a cool device. I will have to take a look at it.

Thanks again.
