Is there a special serial cable pin out for programing? I set up hyper term to 8,none,1 and 38,400bps is there something missing?

What did you do after that? Try CTL L

If I'm not mistaken its a straight cable.
Pin1-1 and so on.

I tried the CTL L and that didn't do anything.

For the olds versions of SVMI4 ,sometimes you need to reboot the voice mail to get in.

all the about suggestions are good, but I didn't see it stated that you pressed the ESC. key to get in. PVJ is right about the straight through cable.

If CTL L dindn't to anything ,ESC key is the bypass ?

ESC key is the access to the system that prompts you for a password. CTRL L cleans up the display which occurs often with the SVMI-4.

mathrap your right about the older versions needing a reboot sometimes.

smoke break, is this a older svmi4 or newer svmi4e?

PVJ is correct it needs to be a straight through cable.

Are you sure it's an SVMi-4 or a SVMi-4e? Because I believe the E Series default baud rate is 9600.

You didn't say if you saw anything? If you connect to the SVMi and then reset the card you should at least see "garbage" in hyperterminal. If you're not seeing that then your cable is wrong. If you're seeing "garbage" your baud rate it wrong. Also make sure flow control is None and under ASCII setup you turn off Wrap Lines.

It's 38400 for both,y'are right for flow control and for the ASCII .
