I am a new office manager and am attempting to get control over our Amanda phone system. I have a manual that is not much help and even looked for more information on their website without any progress.

Q1- how do I add background music? the manual says when a music source is provided.....how do I provide a music source

Q2- how do I get the ringer to go longer than 2 rings? I found options for changing the ring tone but not how to extend the ring?

I am totally clueless on this system so any help is appreciated.

welcome to the BB.

Actually, the Amanda is the voice mail.

Which Samsung (the grey box that says Samsung in the closet with all the phone stuff) service unit are you using?

Once we have that we can help more.
If you don't know what Samsung unit you have, is is a plastic box or a metal box?

If it is a plastic box, does it have a rocker power switch underneath the box [DCS] or on the front [DCS Compact]?

If it is a metal box, remove the cover and see if the circuit cards are bare (50 Si or iDCS 100) or if the circuit cards are encased in plastic (iDCS500.)

If your unit has three sections with a plastic tab on the bottom of each section it would be a 7100.

Does your Amanda mount on the wall and say "Amanda SoHo" and have four sockets for line cords and a outside power supply?

Does your Amanda mount on the wall and is grey and has a power cord that goes from the wall to the unit and also has a keyboard and monitor?[Amanda at Work.Place]?

Is your Amanda a tower that sits by itself and has a keyboard and monitor? Amanda at Work.Group.
Wow..ok yeah...is it that obvious I am new to this

ok...I found the box mounted on the back wall and on the outside it is labeled, Prostar DCS Compact by Samsung. DO I need to take the cover off? looks like I will need a big screwdriver for that, but I can do it.
It also looks like some of the wiring is coming out of the box and to a small system also mounted to the wall. the small system does not have a cover on it and is labeled like our phones are. 201, 202, etc Hope that helps.

Amanda has a tower, monitor, and keyboard. but every time I try to move around on the keyboard it just beeps at me and does nothing. yesterday I tried control alt delete and I think I just restarted it. I have a password in the paperwork that was left for me, but when I try to put it in, again, it just beeps at me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.

cluelessAmanda welcome to Tech-Talk welcome

DO NOT take the cover off! The Amanda does not contain any equipment or software reqired for the questions you have.
To add a music source requires wiring a music source device to the block that has the wiring from your system. Programing can be done from any telephone.

You need special tools and training, this is best left to the company that installed the system.

PM sent to cluelessAmanda, this will be handled off the forum.
At this time I would just be happy knowing how to extend the ringer so that i dont have to run to the phone to answer it. Right now I get 2 and half rings before voice mail picks up. Is there a way to change this setting.

also, my boss would like to do conference calls. The samsung manual tells you how, but it involves a CONF button which as far as I can tell we do not have.

Any help with these small issues is appreciated. I will let me boss know to get music we would need to hire someone to come look at the system. If we did hire someone to come out, do they usually give you a tutorial on how to use the phone?

cluelessamanda did you read the PM I sent. Every thing you are looking for will require technician level programming.

Please respond to your PM. smile Thanks

you can use the link in my post to get user guides for your system.

Most are happy to show you the ins and outs of user functions and basic administration, you are paying for them to be there after all. Just make sure you let the company know that you want some admin and user training so they are prepared.

The DCS Compact can have two music sources. One is standard and can be both music on hold and background music if both are programmed to use the same source, a cord punched down to the same block as the stations, 201, 202, etc.

IF there is a MISC 1 or MISC 2 card in a slot in the bottom of the cabinet, you can have a SECOND input source. You could have a custom CD music on hold playing on the first input and background music playing over the speaker in your phone.

You could also use the first input for music on Company ABC lines for music on hold and the second input for Company XYZ lines for music on hold, it is all assigned in programming.

Changing the length of the ring before going to voicemail is a couple minute procedure anyone could walk you through over the phone. You would need to determine the ring group number and change the overflow time.

Assuming you have the correct password, you have to know how to enter it. The default password for Amanda systems has both capitals and lower case to make it harder for people who should not be playing with it.
