I hope someone here can help me. I have installed a 7030 + Slave, DLI and SLI with 6 SMT-R2000 AP's and 2 SMT-W5100 handsets. They are not setup in a cluster, they are all configured as individual AP's, all have different IP addresses but all have the same SSID and WPA Key.

The problem i am having is this... The two phones are on extensions 210 and 211, and every so often the phones loose signal to the AP's (even if they are not being used). The handsets are close (within 5m) to one of the AP's. Sometimes it's just one of the phones that looses signal, all you see is a red handset with a line through it, it still has the extension number and the name, and normally if you turn the phone off and on it reconnects.

The system is on v2.03 or v2.04, for both cabs, all AP's are on v2.09, and the handsets are on v01.04.02 which is the next issue. I have been trying to upgrade the handsets, the first time i tried the upgrade everything seems to be uploading to the handset, but comes up with an error at the end, the handset reboots and then will not connect, you have to deregister and redo the registration.

As you can see i am having a few issues so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Across the pond you have different cabinets, our single cabinet is the 7100, a dual cabinet is the 7200 and three or more cabinets is a 7400. If you have a "slave" cabinet I assume you have a 7200.

Would you be an end user or an installer with Samsung certification?

smaller system than the 7100

I noticed tha you stated that you don't have the APs clustered, I would cluster them. I have been told that clustering them is what allows that hand off between the APs.

With out being clustered, if the phone is registered with one AP it can cause the issue that you discrided of only being a few meters away from another AP and losing signal. But when reset it comes back up fine, because it registers with the AP you are closest to.

The AP's handoff using the A radio, it has nothing to do with clustering. Clustering makes it easier to make changes, because you only need to update the config on one AP and it sends the change to the rest of the cluster.

Sorry for not replying sooner. The system is a 7030. The handover works fine without clustering. I have spent all of last week on the phone to Tech Support and I still have the issue. The system, all 6 AP and the handsets are all on the latest firmware now. The issue i am still having is that if you walk out of range, and then back in range the handset does not reconnect... BUT if you do the same connected to a 7100 the handsets reconnect.

anyway, i am doing another Wifi install on a different 7030 tomorrow, so i will see how things go and report back.

Try setting the AP's to B instead of G. This makes a big difference in the connections and you don't need that much speed for the phones. I have a medical facility with over 20 WIP phones and changing from G to B made a big difference with range and quality.
