Hello everyone. Let me first admit, that I'm a run of the mill Windows network administrator. Not a phone expert, so please be gentle. smile

Some time ago, we got a Peplink 300 load balancing device. We use it for DMZ'ing so we can put things outside our overkill protective firewall. It just so happens that our OfficeServ 7400 system is in this DMZ.

We have a VoIP phone. Whenever someone calls it, the phone rings, but when the call is picked up there's no sound. It's like both ends are muted. However the call is connected. Except for voice, everything works. VoIP person can put the call on hold, have a non-VoIP phone inside the office pick it up, and everything is fine.

Now here's the weird thing. Sometimes the VoIP phone works with voice. It's kinda hit or miss (user says it's like 1 out of 4 times). However even when a call like this works, it can suddenly go "voiceless" on both ends if either caller does something like, putting the call on hold.

We were thinking the problem is due to our Peplink doing load balancing with the calls. So we killed that part... however the problem still persists. Any advice?

On a side note: the Peplink has a special exception, that allows three custom SIP ports to be added into the device, if the service provider has custom ports. Currently still trying to get the port info from our provider, but I don't think it's anything exotic.

On the Peplink I see activity going over ports 6000 and 9000 for the VoIP user's IP address. Those ports are allowed through the device and firewall (plus all the others like 30000 to 30031).

But what are ports 6000 and 9000 doing exactly? I'm assuming that's the part that's working, and not voice related? Also what ports does the voice go over? I'm thinking 30000 to 30031... is that correct?

Thanks for any info.

Major thanks to the 100th power. I'm printing out the PM and will plug those into the device and firewall.

If you upgrade your OS7400 to the latest 4.4 software you can specify multiple public ip's so can turn the load balancing back on

Udp/tcp port forwarding is not setup to go to the Samsung.I had the same problem.Samsung could not give me the ports that must be forwarded.
I eventually did a DMZ to Samsung switch.

In MMCs 830 and 840 the IP type should be private/firewall and public/firewall.

Turn MPS service off. 2.1.5
What MGI module are you using 16 or 64 or are you using OAS module? Some ports need forwarded to System some need forwarded to MGI module.Let me know config and I try to help.

I had an audio problem on the 7200s where I was not able to make calls from IP phone to IP phone but everything else worked. Once I turned off the MPS service it cleared the problem. Calls sound great no matter where or who is calling.

When using IP phones with MPS you need to make sure that they are running the correct version of software to support MPS (or disable MPS).
For the ITP-51xxD series it is 3.37
The ITP-Video (5100S) currently doesn't support MPS (DTMF doesn't work), awaiting a new firmware from Korea.

Put your MGI/OAS card IP into the DMZ to check if the port forward is the issue

Hi there, i dont know if this problem is ongoing for everyone but it has happened to me. I have setup a new 7100 I have all IP phones (SMT-i5243) and they all work fine within the lan. When i take them off site to our other office they connect, i can call another phone, that works, but there is just no audio. I have tried to forward every port i have seen to the OS but still nothing. On the 2.1.5 menu i dont see any option for MPS, nor can i find it anywhere. If anybody can help that would be great

Jezh - have you turned on private with public mode in MMC830? (831 if you have and OAS/MGI card in the system as well)

Have you done all the port forwards in the router for the MGI/MPS channels?
