HI all!
Just updated a 7030 via IT to 4.91. It WAS working on 4.53b ok.

I have done updates on the other versions, really like the SD card idea, easy to recover from issues. Alas, not the 7030 I guess.

I dumped over the files and checked the ini. Looked at WebMMC, and it looked all ready to restart in the new. Now just the usual clicking on the phone and they have no life. The Run and mem lights come up normally. I did a default with the reset switch, the lights went out for a bit and came back, still no joy.

Soooooo, whats the recovery option on the 7030? Or is there something I missed?

Thanks all

7030's take about 20 mins to come back up after a sw upgrade.

You can try leaving it and it might come up otherwise you'll have to recover it.

Im sure it was on for 20 min, maybe interrupted the first time...

Guess I have to search the recover method. I see a rom chip socketed on the board....

Found the 7030 firmware recovery instructions..

Good I already have to use serial stuff constantly.

Not sure if its ok to post a link, feel free to do your worst.
I didn't post any copyright material, nor any passwords.

We do now... you just have to ask TS for them. There is a new 4.93 recovery that will permanently address the file system issue that causes the 7030 to brick on the older versions. I would suggest doing the upgrade when onsite for any 7030 to save yourself a return trip down the road because eventually they all fail at least once.

By 4.93 recovery I guess you mean firmware 4.93 and later will permanently address the file system issue? Or is it a separate step? I gather a certain boot rom update fixes it.

You don't need to use their cable idea, just a DB9 connector wired to some kind of 3 pin thing that goes on the pins will work. Not always easy to just find the perfect connector for the board, so fake it. No need to go the RJ45 method, DB9 is cheap and easy to get.

The new 4.93 includes a new bootrom that changes the file system.
If you do it before a 7030 goes down you will not need the recovery cable and can do it all with DM.

Now you tell me wink

Yah, don't think I have 4.93 for the 7030.

Don't you guys use We-Operations as well? If so it's on there.

I just had a customers 7030 die on me after a power failure, this is the 2nd one that I've had this happen to me.

The first one I sent in for repair but I need to be able to recover these on site but I'm having some trouble following the directions and could use some help.

I built the cable and have no problems accessing it through the serial port but after that I'm stuck.

I downloaded the 7030 software from WE Operations but when I un zip it there's no Boot file like it shows in the PDF.

Any ideas?

You only need the boot file (bt30v4xx.bin) if you're upgrading to 4.93 or if it's <4.40 currently.

There are a bunch of commands you need to type, and also need to setup a tftp server (i use 3cdaemon or tftpd)

Ok, that's good to know, the version i have is 4.71.

Are the commands that I need to type in the PDF, I just saw q and the print command.

I'll try it again later on today

I'm unzipping the 7030 software into a new folder on my desktop but I can't attach it to my tftp server.

I must be doing something wrong, any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark
You should be able to point the tftp directory to the folder on your desktop.

Thanks for the reply,

I thought so too but when I point to the folder it doesn't recognize what's inside, I know I'm doing something wrong..ugh

look at the logs on your tftp server, it'll tell you the file the system is looking for

Thanks, I'll try that

Ok, I finally figured out how to reflash my 7030 but now I need to upload VM prompt file.

Can someone tell me the procedure to do that or point me to a PDF that walks me through the steps.

Thanks

Hello, I am trying the same procedure. I can see the info from the OS 7030 system via the serial cable, but I am unable to have anything transfer via the tftpd server.

The screen is showing that it is attempting to TFTP from the server (PC) to the OS 7030 address but the "loading" linr keeps on timing out and shows "ARP Retry count exceeded; starting again" This continually loops...

I do not show any IP LAN LED on the 7030 and i cannot ping the OS 7030

I have triple checked for the correct IP addresses.

I'm assuming that the 7030 LAN connection must be the issue as there in no LAN LED lit up.

Any ideas on getting the LAN to work on the 7030 or alternatives to transferring the file via the serial connection?

I've heard sometimes the Lan connector does go bad and the only thing to do is send it in for repair.
