Hello all, I am new here a friend referred me. i have a 7070 and a 7100 in two locations both connected via VPN, (Cisco routers at both ends) my VPN is good cos i can ping the PBX in site A from site B, after i have done all SPNET config i get no user response when i call site A from site B and vice versa.

What is the likely cause and solution to this.

Thanks.

That error usually means either the systems can't talk, or its taking to looking for the messages to go between.
Do you have private with public enabled on 1 or both systems?

I have private with public enabled on MMC 830 on both systems

In the spnet table do you have the local address of the systems programmed?
If so add them into mmc838 on both systems will fix your issue.

I should add the local address of system A on MMC838 of system A and do same for system B?
When you say if i have the local address of the systems programmed what do you mean, do you mean like the system link ID, and the rest of the SPNET config?
If that is what you meant, yes i have them programmed.

Sorry that wasn't written well.

System A gets system B local address in mmc 838
System B gets system A local address in mmc 838

Edit:

If you want to know why this is required i can tell you

Hey Nameless, we should have a name for you,
Thanks a lot every thing just worked fine. I never used to do anything on mmc838 before yet my SPNET worked fine.

Please tell me why i need to do that, i just noted it down just so i do not forget.

Thanks again.

I have tried adding the addresses of the remote sites in 838 and now it is a crapshoot. Sometimes the call to a remote extension goes through other times it gives the No User Response on the first attempt. But the call goes through on the second try.

The reason mmc838 is required is that with the introduction of mps in 4.4x the manual setting of private or public for spnet and ip phones was removed. Now the system assumes if you have private with public turned on anything not in the local subnet of the mp card has to go through public.
Mmc838 lets you over ride this.
Just put x.x.x.255 (eg 192.168.1.255) to cover all ip addresses in the remote network.

Sounds like you have network issues.
Run wireshark at one end and you'll likely see delays in the response from the other site.

Don't assume just because you can ping means the network is good. What are the ping times?
Maybe also run ping plotter as it will show you packet loss and latency.
