I have a 7100 here that will not allow me to record my system prompt for auto attendant. each time upon completing my recording and prompted to press # to save i get an audible "system error" does anyone know the cause of this error and how to get around it?

Does the voicemail work?Can you send/receive messages?

Check the read only switch on the side of the sd card.
Should be up.

yes it is not in lock position, Ive powered down the system checked this and re seated the card and returned power to the 7100 and still unable to send messages or record prompts

Then I would guess that you have a bad SD card. If true DO NOT reboot the system .If it is bad the system will probably not reboot.

You may want to look into getting a replacement SD card.
