Hi all. Going out to measure for a fiber job. The customer has no idea what he wants. He was talking about direct burial fiber and or running a pipe between the buildings, installing the fiber in that. The one run is about 300 ft and the other is about 150 ft. Which is the best option direct burial or in pipe? Thanks

I like anything between buildings in conduit. Gives you room for expansion, replacing or adding other services without having to open another trench or if the area between the buildings becomes inaccessible.

Conduit gives the customer one additional buffer between a shovel and a service call. Don't forget to leave a pull string in there to safe time in the future.

As Bill & Jeff said, use conduit. PVC is cheap, offers a lot of protection, and can be used for future growth. Plus, if someone does break the conduit, you just fix it and replace the fiber without having to retrench.

If you go the conduit route go with the biggest one they can afford. Even though the cable may fit in a 1" go with at least 2" and watch those bends radiuses.

Just thinking aloud, if someone is going to the trouble of renting a ditch witch or paying a contractor to bring their backhoe in, there's absolutely no reason not to run 4" pipe.

Also, you should use Outdoor rated fiber, even if its in a conduit.

Was on site on Saturday, did some measurements. They are design building themselves. I tryed to convience him to install PVC but he wasnt sold on the idea. He will run PVC under the concrete slab, but not the whole way. Thanks for the advice to all.
