Our small non-profit is the recipient of a donated Executone IDS 84 system. It is wired in but there's apparently a lot of programming that needs to be done to get it working properly. Someone said use ProComm on a laptop linked by serial port (pin2=green; pin3=yellow; pin5=red)to the RJ45 plug on the main unit. Okay, then what?
Do you tell ProComm this is a modem connection? How do you ring up the ksu? Then what? Does anyone have experience with programming this system? Is there any documentation on this programming? We have the (Isoetec Data Phone) User's Guide but can't find anything on system programming. Help!

Use Procomm and connect as a dumb terminal: N,8,1, 9600 bps and TVI920 emulation. Using a DB9 to modular connector on your pc and connect the 6 wire line cord to the mod plug on the cpu. Once connected, hit ESC and you should see the "disclaimer" screen. When you see the prompt for "enter password", then enter it. Your in...now the screen is all menus at this point. You will have to play around because I could fill a book on what to do next.

Well, I got ProComm installed today and tried the direct connect method (green=2; yellow=3; red=5) but it didn't work, so I tried the TRANSFER-99 method, and I got in (I think) but the screen filled with gibberish so I couldn't respond. I tried some other ProComm settings but nothing came out as readable.

I had ProComm set at 9600,8-N-1 TVI950 emulation Seems like Zmodem came up as default protocol, but also tried ASCII which
didn't work any better. Also not sure if I should 'Enable Command Mode'

Anyhow, I think I'm getting close. I sure wish it would speak to me in English! Guess I need to hit Esc after I Transfer to 99?

I'll try slowing down the baud rate to see if the gibberish clears up, and try TVI920 emulation to see if this helps.

Thanks for the tips!

>>nothing came out as readable.<<
That's usually the baud rate not matching up. You are close.

For Sure...TVI 920 emulation. If you use any other, you will get weird characters. If you do get in, you can go to the "B" screen and change the Port baud rate. Press "P" in the "B" screen and this will take you there. Note that if you have an additional RS232 board installed, you will have more than one port. Look for the * when you increment through the ports. When you see it, you are using that port.
