I have a customer who has a VXC in a 228 cabinet and when they try to listen to 'saved' messages, the port releases. It will cycle thru all the ports so the problem isn't specific to just one port.
New messages play just fine - problem is related to only 'saved' messages.
Any help will be appreciated!!
Thanks,
terry
Is it just one saved messages or all saved messages?
It may be a corrupt BTR file. The status file may be corrupt causing issues would be just a guess. But if it is just one message would suspect that message has a issue. You may want to try to forward it to another mailbox or even the same mailbox then it should become a new message and see if it does the same thing.
If you need assist with copying BTR file over to try to correct let me know.
This happens with every user - When the system prompts them to press 'one' for messages, if they have 'new messages; it will play them. If they have no new messages it hangs up on them and will not play 'saved' messages.
As mc601 indicates, most likely a corrupt .btr file. Of course, I'd restart voicemail as a first step. If trouble persists, copy task.btr and menu.btr from the backup folder. The process takes five minutes if you know how. May want mc601 to assist (he is apparently more geared for this).
That is correct as mforrence noted. Try reboot first then the 2 BTR files he mentioned. If that doesn't correct the next BTR file to copy over would be Boxstat.btr file. After doing that one you are suppose to go into each mailbox via the mailbox set up screen and save the boxes again to update the box status screen.
It's been years since I copied over files - Could you give a quick overview of the procedure?? Thanks, terry
Take system off line down to the DOS prompt c:\mail Then change directory to zip directory. cd\zip Screen should read c:\mail\zip this is where you find the virgin BTR files. to copy over files Type copy XXXX.btr c:\mail\btr (XXX is file you want to copy) Some files should not be copied as they will cause you to loose information in mailboxes and set up screens so be careful. If not sure let me know.
A few more bits of information .. . . Today I stopped by the site and did a few tests - I created a 'new' mailbox and left test messages in it. I found that I could listen to them, save them, and then listen to the 'saved' messages. Existing MB's still can't listen to saved messages. I did run defrag which found some bad sectors on the HD. I'll try copying the files as indicated by mc601 and see what happens from there.
Would suspect the boxstat.btr is the problem. Just remember to resave all mailboxes after bring the system back on line. I.E. Go to mailbox set up screen make sure you are on first mailbox in system. Do the F5 to save then F10 to next box and resave them all. Hope that fixes it for you.
