I am working on replacing the hard-drive on an infostar voicemail. The hard drive is becoming a bit noisy and I want to replace it before it crashes. I used norton ghost to create an image of the working drive then copy it to the replacement drive. When the system boots up it seems to get almost completely through but throws an error message saying "incorrect software version". What am I missing?

There was some hidden files on the drive from what I understand that prevents you from doing that? Always had to get a drive with software loaded on it then backup old and restore on new. You may want to try to load VXC software to the drive if you have some?

Don't know if this is same with VXC but most likely. You know there is someone on this site that sells Flash drives for replacment.

All software security information for the INFOSTAR/EVX system is contained
in the C:\MAIL\QVXCFG.INI file. This file is encrypted in a way that
ties it directly to the hard disk drive onto which it was originally installed: it
will not function if transferred to another hard disk drive. When restoring a
backup of an existing INFOSTAR/VX system onto a new system, make sure
not to overwrite the content of this file. Create a backup copy of the original
C:\MAIL\QVXCFG.INI file so that the encryption information it contains
is not lost. At the “C:\” prompt, type:
‘COPY C:\MAIL\QVXCFG.INI C:\MAIL\QVXCFG.ORG’
and then press ENTER.
Failing to backup the site database can result in catastrophic data loss.
I've used the flash drives on both the EVX and VXC and they work great!! No moving parts - the cost has really come down on these as well and seem to be a better option than a hard drive.
