OK - Here is the setup......I do not know if this belongs in the VODAVI forum or the VOIP forum......
I have an XTSc system with a talkpath, I have 5 IP phones, four of the phones are in different locations throughout the city. The problem I have ran into is echo on the remote phones( I say something, then i hear myself a second later. My system has several compression methods to choose from. The default is G.723 but I also have G.729, G.711 U-LAW, G.711 A-LAW. Now Iam not that keen on the data side. I know that the G.711 U-LAW is uncompressed and uses alot of bandwidth. My question is at what point do I blame this echo on my phone system or on the public internet..any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks - derek

Wanna get really depressed? Download internet software to trace IP hops. I did and made a call to Charlottesville VA. Hop showed call routed fron south Texas to Austin Texas, Dallas Texas, Los Angeles California,Hong Kong, back to LA yadde yadee yadde cross USA to final destination. Managed bandwidth is the only way to go. POint to Point not public internet.

IS the echo only on station to station calls or on co line calls to thru the system? Most of the time echo is a result of utilizing copper phone lines on a system with an IP phone. If you are having the problem boost open your codec (G711) and test. What are the IP phone users using for there service? DSL, cable? I'm still learning as well and am a novice. I just keep telling the sales force that VOIP is not audio quality of copper or T-1/PRI lines, not yet. Hope some of this helps!
