Time Warner is providing telephone service through VOIP. Our fax machine is having trouble receiving.(busy signal). Could it be because of the VOIP service.

Typically you won't get a busy signal because of VoIP transport but for grins unplug the fax and dial the fax number...what happens then???

I have seen faxes strugle over VOIP. I Had a customer that went to a flex-PRI service, which turned out was basically running over voip. He want back to a traditional PRI service because he could not get the multi-page faxes to come thru completely.

Usually you need to lock the fax to a max speed of 9600 baud for VoIP. Jitter Buffer and private IP networks will help you obtain better, sometimes higher connection rates but it is not 100%.

So faxing via VOIP is possible?

How come vonage wants like $10 extra to give you a fax line?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I am kind of new to VOIP.

Thanks.

Because they have to provide a better quality VoIP for faxing.
