In one of our buildings we have a Simplex 5120 paging/bell/clock system. After an electrical storm there was a full time "wop, wop, wop" sound through the speakers. The Simplex tech diagnosed a problem with one of the boards--blown diode. The prices he quoted seem to be outrageous. I've been looking for replacement boards on the Internet with no luck. Does anyone here know of any suppliers I should check with?
Thanks,
Terry

Will the technician tell you which diode? Replace it, would be my advice. Diodes are less than a buck. If your hourly rate is less than "outrageous" then replace it yourself.

Why would a tech diagnose a problem down to a diode and then not replace it? As Arthur said diodes are cheap if you know how or have a tech that can replace it then you could save $$$ otherwise you need to replace the board. If the system is very old you maybe able to find used parts but I have no idea where.

It's Simplex...they are going to charge as much as they can because the board says SIMPLEX on it.

I did a search for Simplex repairs and found THIS.
They may be able to help find the board you need.

Simplex purchases most of their PA systems from Valcom, if that helps.
