Why is it built into a 2565 base?

CTG (Canadian Telecommunications Group) was an independent spin-off that came along shortly after the Bell divestiture in the US, except it was in Canada. They farmed out the manufacture of hardware to many providers. That looks to me to be of Northern Electric branding by the charcoal-gray dial pad. They also had their electronic key systems manufactured by Vodavi in the late 80's.

I've seen other phones built on the 2565 base before, especially hotel room phones that needed the added real estate within for the manufacturer's "features". Motorola used them for their remote 2-way radio sets with a PTT handset, speaker in the blank faceplate and 6/C line cord. Band-Aid beige, of course.

In this case, my guess is that is some form of integrated speakerphone based upon what appears to be a volume control slide in place of the number card.

To see any photo better, hold the CTL key while rolling the mouse wheel away from you. To reduce the photo, roll the mouse wheel toward you.

That's what I did to see the speaker volume control.

IIRC, the Motorola T-1380 series remotes were built on standard length 2500 type bases.. And they were available in several colors other than beige.

I did run across a photo of some CPI/Vega remotes, that look like they are built on 2564/5 bases.

It says Ringer Volume

I recognize it, but it's been years since I've seen that model. I think the ringer was electronic and that it did not fit well into a 2500 base. If you buy it, let me know if I am mistaken.
