Note: I posted this in Installers and didn't even get a nibble.. Anybody Here?

Thanks.

OK, I remember seeing these phones ( A LONG time ago) and we at one time were successful in interfacing to a phone system using a 600ohm input , and I'm thinking we may have used some type of pre-amp? But, I Can't remember for sure...So, I have a Customer that is still using the Terryphone system and I want to try and tap into it ( I'm thinking it probably needs a CO Port to be the interface) ? Any thoughts on his?

Brian -

I've held off replying because I don't know jack about the system, but apparently neither does anyone else, so.......

Here we go.

Exactly what are you trying to accomplish?

Terryphones, both the Intercom and the key system versions were very proprietary and if you didn't work for the manufacturer, you didn't work on them - at least back in the day.

Are you trying to access a paging function on the ICM from the telephone system? Is there an external amplifier?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Sam, Thanks for replying, they have the old terry phone system in place which still works . we just installed a new phone system and were going to try to use the Speakers-Horns as well, ( keeping the functionality of the Terryphones) I have a bunch of pictures( I Haven't been there yet- the new system has been installed ( the Young guys are freaking out with all the 25 pair cables :-) ), External Amplifier ...yes , sort of. there is something that says 10 watts on it, but, then there is something else that just says " High Voltage " Stay Out.

( if you want , shoot me a pm with an email address and I can email the pics )

Thanks !

Brian, put the pics here too. You might be surprised once someone sees what you're dealing with. It could be a lot simpler than it seems. People often restrict the level of support available when they narrow the subject down to an obscure product name.

I thought I replied to this. Must be a "senior moment."

Almost every parts store in western PA has an old Terryphone system. There are several flavors and each is unique as to how it integrates. First, look at the thing that says 10 Watts. This is an amplifier/controller/concentrator. The simple ones have no "foreign" inputs. You need to follow the mic connection and then connect a 10K ohm to 600 ohm matching transformer to the input to use the paging.

Several of the larger and newer systems did have input RCA connectors. You will still need a matching transformer like a Bogen 1 K ohm to 600 ohm matching transformer. Don't be afraid to open the thing up. It's really simple and if you know, even the basics, of amplifier design, you can easily see the input and output connections and follow the input back to the pre-amp. I remember a car wash around here that had a Terryphone system up until they sold the place 2-3 years ago.

Update: I was there today and after looking at the mess, and talking with the customer, he actually has somebody that can still service the unit. he said the guy was there about 4 months ago doing something. I said ' ask the guy to " set it up " for a 600 ohm telephone input'...Stay Tuned, thanks to Everybody that tried to help.
