I managed to find a pair of these rare KTU's. They are used on special Call Directors, either 2634 or 2635.

Shipping from Canada damaged one of the relays. Is it possible to repair one relay in this device or am I out of luck?

Even though marked fragile and "this side up" and arrows everywhere, either the Canada Post or the USPS handled it poorly. I'm betting USPS since they have wrecked lots of my last years packages.

Thanks!

Wire spring relays can be fixed if the damage is minimal. Did the contact card get smashed, or did the wire springs get mangled? Or both?

Which relay got damaged? Can you take a look at the BSP for the 236 and some BSP's for other KTU's and see if there is a suitable replacement on a less-rare unit?

The top of the relay AJ 203 has a black frame that is broken on one side, so a metal clip that comes up the side from the bottom of the relay will not stay in place. Some of the wire springs are loose.

These are in relay H which if I read the schematic correctly handles lines 20-23.

If I can't repair this, I'm hoping I can just leave it alone and still have lines 1-17 available.

I'm lucky. I have an expert (Phil) who will look at this when I return from a trip next week.

I put pictures here: Picture of 236 damage

Thanks Arthur!

I'll check in the barn and see if I have any units that have an AJ-203 relay on them. If not, I'll ask a few of my collector friends. You might wish to post a request on the VoIP list asking for that particular relay. There's a guy on EBAY (tajocabs) who has a metric sh!tpile of relays and other WE stuff.

Get yourself a WE 216A KTU. They are not rare. It has a similar 12-transfer relay. I think it's an AF-43. The contact card is "probably" a direct replacement. Ask Phil if he has one.

Actually any wire spring relay contact card will work if you can file the bumps to match the one that broke. But that's a lot of work. Good luck and keep us posted.

Know anybody with a laser cutter or a 3D printer and a pair of calipers? I'll bet you could make a replacement that would work pretty well.

I happen to have a 235B in a similar state - one of the contact cards on the CA1 relay is missing a tab - and I may use this as an excuse to visit the local hackerspace.

If the laser cutter won't cut the phenolic, then I'll give printing it a shot.

My first shot at laser cutting a replacement contact card for an AK14 relay (CA1/A) on the 235/236 line concentrator and it almost worked.

I used clear acrylic, unfortunately a bit too thick, so it didn't engage with the solenoid arm properly. There are some other issues with my particular broken relay which may have also contributed to it not quite working.

I'm going to order some 1/16" material and try again this week. Even though it didn't work, I'm pretty confident I can cut replacement parts now. A proper set of relay tools sure would be nice though.

Very cool Tim!

Thanks.
