I'm trying to install a WE 662 A1 (6 button rotary card dialer). The BSP, 502-661-101, is not yet loaded in the TCI Library, or showing in any of the BSP condensed service manuals. On all the other rotary card dialer models, a low voltage 2075A transformer is needed. When I checked the Paul-F site, he lists the 662 model as "Keyset, 6-button Automatic Dialer - 40A dial, G1A ringer. 40A dial is polarity sensitive and operates from line current. No external power supply is needed." I never read where a rotary dial is polarity sensitive (maybe a misprint?). In any event, I'm looking for the BSP and a 2075A transformer. Any help would be appreciated!

The rotary dialer is coded "41". it requires 18 Volts AC to operate the synchronous motor that drives the dialing mechanism.

You should apply 18 VAC to the violet/orange pair of the telephone mounting cord at a convenient point in your wiring scheme (connecting block, 66 block, etc.)

You can derive the 18 volts from a separate transformer, or from the 18 V tap on the key system power unit. Unlike the 18 V that is used for the 3- and 4-type speakerphones, which can't be grounded, the power for the dialer **CAN** be grounded.

I think the DTMF version is coded "40" which **would** be polarity-dependent. The DTMF dialer does not require the external power supply, since it dials out in real time as the dialing card passes over the contact matrix, on its way up.

Thanks Arthur for the quick reply and finding the BSP. I read on this forum before about the need for separate transformers for the 3A Speakerphone, so I thought the same would be true for the dialer; thanks for explaining. Now I can run the power from the KSU! What a lifetime of knowledge you have, sad that so much will be lost on future generations. Regards, Jim

A card dialer! I don't think I've seen one in 30 years. And I know I haven't worked on one in 40 years. Especially a rotary one!

Love my card dialer. I hitched it up to a 6040 key so I could use it on my 1A2. I try to use it as often as I can.



Some genius before me didn't like modular cords...

We'll have to see if we can find you a matching white cover for that key. You'd have gotten three days off without pay if the foreman had seen that mis-match on an installation.

Nice! And I also hate modular cords. Much higher rate of failure. Put much of the onus of work onto the consumer and away from the craftsman.

Now I've seen a card dialer again. What a blast from the past. I had a friend who had one and used it to answer the radio station call-in contests. He had the first 6 digits of the station programmed and when they announced the contest he'd start the card dialer. It would dial the first 6 digits faster then any human and once he identified the song he'd dial the last digit and beat out the hoi-polloi.

I hate the damn beige color. If I had my druthers, they both would be something different, like red, blue, or some other non-promoted color. But.... Since I have a sense of reality, I would be happy to have a white cover for the key. Actually the card dialer is pretty faded and a little yellowed anyway, so I guess anything would be an improvement.

Re Sam; I too dislike modular cords. They are really flimsy and I have some sets with original non-modular cords that are 40+ years old and the cords are still in good shape. I've never seen a modular handset cord last anything even close to that. They are, at least, easy to change. I got a bag of 25 or so for free that were brand new from a surplus/recovery store that was going to just throw them out. I replaced all the handset cords on my partner sets that day.

Every Lancaster TCI show I grab a handful of non-modular cords in various colors from the cord man. I have near every color except pink. Those are a little tougher to find.

The reason that you don't see pink cords is that I have grabbed them all for my extensive pink collection. You can brighten the faded plastics using the "Retr0bright" system. Or since it's a TT version, you can clean up the faceplate and using a rattle can, re-paint the housing in any color you like.

I'm working on my assortment of pink stuff. So far I have a 500, a 554, a princess, and a 2564 in pink.
