I need a little information and was hoping one of you guys could help. My wife has a business with an older Inter-Tel IMX 612/1224/2460 phone system that came with the business. The phones are Inter-Tel 660.7900's. She is having issues with a couple of the phones and has asked to find some replacements for them. I looked around and found some refurbished ones of the same model online, but I have a few questions. Will any Inter-tel IMX phone work with the system or just certain ones? Also, I'm assuming the phones will be simply plug and play replacements and not require any programming, correct? Are there any new phones that will work with it or am I limited to refurbished phones?

Now, what they'd really like to do is prop up this old system a little while until they can replace it with a more modern system. The current system is pretty basic, just controls 3 lines plus a WATTS line, and plays background music for calls on hold. They'd like a system that added caller ID & voicemail. There are only 3 employees, so it doesn't have to be anything elaborate. What are some economical options we should look at? Thanks for your time.

This system has been out of production for about 20 years, so there are no new phones. Usedphones.com has refurbished phones readily available.

The IMX phones are interchangeable, with some limitations. If you replace an 8-button set with a 12-button set, or a 12-button set with a 24-button set, the additional keys might not be programmed.

Some phones also have an A-B switch on the bottom. The replacement phone needs to have the switch in the same position.

These phones are famous for helicopter noise, which is often caused by a poor cable connection.

Thanks for the information. I ordered 3 of the 7900s from usedphones.com. Maybe that will get them by for a while.

Any recommendations on a replacement system?

Anyone know where I can find a programming manual for these old 12 button phones?

The phones came yesterday and I can't get any of them to work with the headsets we had. The phones all work fine using the handset. The headsets use the old Plantronics M10 amps. Is there something you have to do to the phone to make it work with the headset?

I tried programming the things using SPCL 315/316 to enable/disable it, but all that does is toggle the speakerphone on/off. They sent the 24 button version instead of the 12 button ones I ordered, if that matters.

Check your handsets, on the inside of the handle is a indentation inside will be either a D or E1. your old phones may be one type and the replacements may be the other. You can find a manual on the web at www.headsetzone.com/m10guide
that will give you switch settings for the diff. handsets.
