We just got a brand new phone system, Inter-Tel 9.002 with Unified Messaging. We do not have MS Exchange on our network, we use regular POP3/SMTP e-mail w/ Sendmail, is UM Level 2 or 3 going to work without Exchange? What will it take to make UM work for outgoing faxes without Exchange? I was able to make the voice parts of UM work under Level 1 but I cannot get the part that makes the system receive faxes, is there a trick to this part?

Thanks a lot, Santiago.

UM outbound faxing requires MS Outlook (standard not Express or WebMail) and a fax card in the VPU. There is a client you must load into the MS Outlook client on the end users who want this function. OB faxing requires a Level 3 key if an older unit or a standard VPU license if purchased recently. Inbound faxes will work with any email client but still needs a fax card.

Yes we have Outlook and we have the software client which I can install and we also have the Level 3 keys (up to 25 users) and the fax card (up to 4 faxes at a time). I guess what I am not sure is how to setup faxing within the Inter-Tel 9.002, I will figure it out eventually...

Thanks,

Santiago.
