Hello,

Well I'm in the navy and I've been given a phone system for a building. The system right now has 164 lines and I have to add about 40 more. I'm a smart guy so far I've been doing ok. I have no books or software to reinstall if something messes up so I'm trying to be very careful. I'm not sure what "system" I have. I know Inter-tel is the ones who I would call if something was way out of my hands or just plain breaks. We have inter-tel phones as well as executone phones on the same system. The DB is V7.0001 that is all I know. I've been learning as I go and now have run into a problem that I can not figure out. The phones, all the phones light up randomly like a Christmas tree. It does not harm anything they just light up. The problem that I'm getting the most complaints about is the "main line" button. I have not changed the key map or anything, but I get a lot of "waiting for main" or "main line is busy” This just started and is affecting all the phones also random dropped calls. I talked to an inter-tel rep and he said to hard reboot the system. I've read some bad things happening from that. I'll take any ideas please. My bosses want me to fix this. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Welcome NavyGuy,
First you have an Inter-Tel Axxess.
As far as lines busy that would typically be indicated by an ARS is busy in the LCD and indicate that an outbound trunk is either not available due to busy condition or that some or all of the trunks in the CO Trunk groups are not in service. What type of telco service do you have? I would imagine that you have ISDN PRI or T1 service of some type. There are a few things to check.
When you get ARS is Busy, look to see if one or more of the T1 [T1/E1/PRI] cards are in alarm, this would indicate that the circuit is down. This does not necessarily indicate a telco problem as a wiring issue from the card to the smart jack could cause the same issue; at least it gives you a place to start.

Ok thanks for the info. I have a T1 service for the phone from what I've been told. I did a system reset and it seems to have worked. The big problem now and I'm close to just calling in a pro. The phone line in rings and does not go to voicemail or the directory. It just rings and rings. I tried everything but rebooting the voicemail computer due to fear of not being able to start any programs that have to be running on it. So my job is so much fun. I hope I can get a nice repsponce like I did last time. Thanks in advance.

Ok, it sounds like your Voice Mail is down, check your main receptionist phone and see if you have an alarm. If no alarm, check date and time and see if they are correct. If you have an alarm, I would go ahead and turn off voice mail computer, wait 10-15 seconds and re start it. If no alarms and date shows 1 Jan, I would think you need to re load the database into the CPU.
Hope this helps
