Am I looking at a hardware problem or a software problem? I am considering defaulting the database, removing the battery and reloading a saved database.

My story is somewhat similar to this link: I found it last night.

https://www.sundance-communications.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/ubb/get_topic/f/4/t/001623.html

The problem started over a week ago, node 5 experienced a power failure in the building and they lost the point-to-point T1, no voice or data communications. It is channelized with a TSU, 15 channels data and 9 channels voice. The CO came out and tested the circuit as OK.

We replaced the node 5 TSU and configured it accordingly, the data side started to work but the voice did not. We replaced the T1E1 card at node 5, no fix. We swapped T1E1 cards at node 1, no fix. We connected the T directly from the NIU to the PBX on both ends, no errors and no communication. (When calling the display still reads "unreachable").

Last night I followed the advice of the above post and uninstalled the 2 T1E1 cards and recommissioned them, the node was then able to pass calls across the point-to-point. I checked with the customer this morning and it was not working, I then repeated the uninstall/reinstall on the node 5 T1E1 card and it started to work again. Later in the day it failed, I modemed in and checked the system; the clocking was set as slave to public network (I may have missed it this morning, but it was working), I changed it to "slave to private network". It began to work again. I'll see what it's doing tommorrow.

This is a VERY common error in the error log:

05:470- 15:45 05-19 M5122 WRN HW CP Nodes Did Not Respond To Broadcast Message From 'PP022' : Nodes 1 2 3 4

If you have any advice, sugestions or questions I'll check back soon. Thanks

It's been a while since I've done point-to-point T1 networking, but I remember a few things...

Double check the TSU settings at node 5, and make sure they match node 1 exactly - especially channel 24 (D-channel).

Clocking is critical. As mentioned before, node 1 should be "master to private network" and all other nodes "slave to private network".

Are all the T1 cards T1/E1, or are there T1Cs in the mix? They don't always play together nicely.

If you have a saved copy of the original database that used to work, open it in local mode and compare them side by side. Perhaps something will jump out at you that wasn't noticed before.

Thanks for your help. I am really at a loss on this one. There is one T1C card connected to the CO (Slave to public network). I will try a T1E1 card in its place.

For troubleshooting purposes we bypass the TSU on both ends.

On node 1: I swapped out the T1C with another T1C card for the CO. I reloaded a previous database on top of the existing.

On node 5; we defaulted the database, pulled the battery for 20 minutes and reloaded a previously saved database.

We tried new T1E1 cards on both ends, and moved them to new slots on both ends.

When we uninstalled the T1E1 cards from programming (both ends) and reconfigured them calls would work, until the cabinets (one or the other) would reset on exiting programming.

I'm still searching for the solution.

FOUND IT. The problem was the flash version of the T1E1 cards, once I corrected the new cards...Bingo.
