Hi all,

I just snagged my first (non-modular) Western Electric 2500. It is a very dirty bright yellow phone with a hard wired handset and line cord.

Is there anything special that I need to know about this? Is there anything about the TT pad that I should be aware of? One thing I am curious about is if the TT pad can be cleaned safely.

Thank you much!

Joe

You might want to hit all of the contacts around the side and on the back of the dial with some contact cleaner. Also, chances are that this phone does not have a polarity guard, so you'll need to make sure that the polarity is correct in order for it to work.

I've often used a toothbrush and some Windex to clean the button faces and in between them. Just don't go crazy with it and you should be fine.

If you can't find a burnishing tool for the contacts, I've had good luck with a quality paper and alcohol. Also alcohol for the buttons. I like the alcohol because it evaporates fast. Odds are the dial needs a good going over as Ed stated.
