I need help, I have 3 western electric single slot pay phones im wanting to use at home, when I hook up the red and green wires, it will ring ok,however you can barley hear the dial tone or anything, except the ringer.Cant hear the tones on the key pad nor the voices.
Im lost, anyone out there know what i need to do?

Thanks
I haven't a clue, but I do have an old chrome lower housing.
I wonder if there are any upper housing around to be purchased?
I think I may also have a chrome cash box door with the old Bell emblem on it. I would trade it away or buy the upper housing to get things operational, assuming you can figure out the solution for your problem.
I'll hide and watch.
The telephones have sophisticated circuitry that responds and interacts with compatible central office equipment. The transmitter, dial and receiver are disabled until a proper amount of money is inserted, counted, and verified. Then the CO allows operation of the telephone. There are pre-pay, post-pay, semi-post pay, and DTF (dial tone first) options.

You need to post your question on the ATCA or TCI forums. Many of their members deal with old coin phones and will give you the exact answer, including SD and BSP references. They can also help you build (or buy) circuits that simulate CO operations to make your phones more user-friendly.
There is a thread under "Telephone services/Equipment Repair/Western Electic 1D2 Payphone Conversion", which might prove helpful.
