I have a Avaya system Version 5 and on a slt I dial 9 to get an outside line and it gives me a busy signal.... my voice mail system can dial 9 to notify me when I have a message no problem. Its just any of the system phones or single line phones will not give me a outside line when I dial 9

any thoughts?

Do you have them set for intercom, if you go to a set and press intercom then 9 you should get a line.

Yeah. I have automatic line selection set to (Left) Intercom. on a system phone i can pick up the phone and the intercom lite will come on and when I dial 9 I get a busy signal.. Same with Single line phones. You pick up the phone you get the intercom dial tone. if you dial 9, you get a busy signal..

Ok, it sounds like you only assigned them intercom for Auto line assignment, you will need to assign them Intercom - line1 - line2 - line3 and so on and that will let you dial 9 from intercom and get a free line.
