Hey all,

We are having a problem with a couple of VoIP extensions we have with our Legend system. We are using the ports on an 012 module going into the VoIP adapter. The VoIP adapter then connects to our network, uses the VPN to get to the off-site warehouse, and to another VoIP adapter there. The normal analog telephone there is connected to the VoIP adapter.

The problem is that sometimes (about half), when a person on site dials the extension, the off-site phone rings, but when they pickup the phone, they get dial tone. The person calling here is then sent to the voicemail after 4 rings. The phone at the off-site is a single line telephone for residential use. The VoIP adapters are Linksys SPA3102's that were purchased new.

Any ideas on what we can do to solve this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Danny

The likely problem is that there is a delay between the time when the analog PORT on the Legend begins to ring and when the remote phone begins to ring. Also a delay when the Legend analog port has stopped ringing and the time that the warehouse phone stops ringing. Set the cover to voicemail delay timer higher and problem will likely diminish or go away.

Mike,

If I understand what you are saying, I am not sure it will fix it. However, I very well may not understand you. I don't have a lot of experience with electrical characteristics of telephones.
The problem is not just with on site calling. I have called in with my cell phone, dialed the extension, and heard it start ringing on my cell. The VoIP phone starts ringing at the same time (or at least no different of a delay than when I call my house phone from my cell phone). When the user there picks up after 1 ring (I am in the same room) she gets a dial tone and on my end, the phone rings a three more times (so a total of four) then goes to her voicemail (which is the normal amount of rings). I think what you are saying is that I need to let the system ring a greater number of times before going to the voicemail.

If not, then I mis-uderstood your post. If I did misuderstand, or if I didn't, but my clarification doesn't change your mind, some help on how to change the cover to voicemail delay timer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Danny

Danny,
I think my guess was wrong. When user at off-site goes off-hook, are they getting dialtone from Legend or dialtone from Linksys gateway? If you remove WAN from the equation - i.e. plug analog phone into Legend port directly and do same test, would it ever fail?

The user off site gets the dialtone from the legend, I think. If the adapter here is not connected to the legend, and they go off hook, they will not get a dial tone. I have not ever had an issue with picking up calls when connected directly to the legend with the analog phones (the only one thats been connected to it for any length of time is the conference room phone, and we haven't had problems with it).

Are the boxes set up to emulate fxs/fxo ports? If so, you might need an fxs on 1 side and an fxo on the other.

Seems to me that the multitech boxes were to be set up that way.

I am pretty sure the linksys adpaters have both the fxs and fxo ports. There are two rj-11 jacks. I know that I have to use a specific one at the warehouse and the other one here (but I don't remember which one is which).

That's all that matters, is that they are the opposite at each site.

OK, They are. Any other ideas?

Take the Linksys box and phone from the warehouse to the office, connect the Linksys boxes directly to each other (off of your network) and see if it does the same thing. If it works OK like that, check your VPN, if it still fails check the Linksys setup.
