I am proposing an application using my ip office 412 and voice mail pro where a message plays over an intercom. The idea is, I have a prerecorded message with evacuation instructions that users can "activate" from any phone in the event of an emergency, dial a predetermined shortcode(?) and the message plays. Sounds simple to me but I can't figure it out. I have also tried to play the wav file over the phone's speaker but the closest I can get is an "Invite" that activates the file when I accept (or pick up). Any ideas / solutions?

I could probably come up with a dozen reasons why what you propose is not advisable. Emergency evacuation instructions should be delivered by a life safety system designed for the purpose when the need arises not by an IP phone system when a user decides to listen. In the event of any major catastrophy your network will probably be the first thing to cease working.

I must agree with Hal, it would be a bad idea. I know from experience that auto paging on IP Office can be thwarted simply by someone else paging at the same time. And page group membership has recently been restricted by Avaya, so you may not be able to cover all of your users. Consider re-working the idea...

Help the guy out. It can be done in More way's than one.

The easiest way would to be set a short code to auto dial to overhead page with priority override.

A simple viking ring trip device would work with a pre recorded message through the viking relay.

This world be a fail safe method.

Maybe it's a Bank and we add panic buttons like in the old day's of a hold up.

I can just imagine what I would have on the recording. (This is a red alert.. Repeat this is a red alert the Police will arrive in two minutes. Please evacuate the bank. I now repeat.. Please evacuate the bank now.

Ok. That was the first thing that came to mind but it wasn't what he was looking to do. That would be the easy and logical method to someone familiar with telcom. He wanted the damn IPO to do everything and play it through each phone's speaker. :bang:

Or use IP Office built-in relay to trip a pre-recorded message. Make a shortcode event that uses a post-dial to automatically page. "Invite" is what you'll see on the display when VMPro is performing an auto page. You MAY need to remain on the line for the duration of the message.

Do you have voicemail pro? You could use an action that plays a wav, either have 1 recorded or record one on etrance into the action.

BUT, what if the power goes out and VM pro stops working????

The key word here is EMERGENCY . WTF ?

Maybe a kid from a local elementary school could run thru the building with a cow bell.

If it doesnt work I'm sure the families will get over it.

Wouldn't it make sense to trip the building's fire alarm system in the event of an emergency?
