We have been experiencing difficulty dialing international calls from our G3r switch. Reciently we discovered that placing a # on the end of the dial string allows us to go out. What is the pound actually doing and is their something in the G3r programming that could be changed to allow international bri calls to go out normally?

There was a time when not all international numbers were the same number of digits. It was permissible to dial # after the number was dialed (sort of like the "send" key on a cell phone) to shorten the timeout period. Otherwise, about a ten second delay occurred before the call was processed. Most ISDN carriers still allow this. That's what I suspect is happening.

In order to have your G3R do this, you'll need some form of digit manipulation done, such as ARS or LCR where the added # can be inserted.

run a 'list ars ana' then post everything that starts with a 0.
